Arizona in afternoon light

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I have posted -as I have been really busy lately. I have been experimenting with 6 x 8 pochade studies of early morning and afternoon light. These are some from earlier this month. It has been a while since I have used earth colors on my PA palette, but what a difference! Raw sienna really captures the afternoon glow. (I included one sunflower painted from life beacuse I like it
C & C Welcome and Thanks for Looking!

Shirley... love 1,2, and 3. The sunflowers are really well done... love the colours... and the baby blue on the vase is great. Like the vibrating effects of the leaves... hommage to Vincent par chance?

wonderful, S

Shirley...Love the sunflowers have you posted them in the artwork from life section of our forum. I know folks there would love to see them too. I really like the large tree and the palms, nice feel in both of those. I just added some earth colors to my palette at the beginning of autumn and I really like what I can do with them.

Thanks Skips! Gotta love Vincent! Jan, sorry I slipped them in thanks for the kind words. I love an expanded palette, and will never return to a limited palette.

Good paintings! I think you have captured just the right things in these.
Two questions:
Did you use pallette knife and is it possible to see pictures in bigger resolution?
Cheers!

Re: Arizona in afternoon light

I love these pieces! very nice work. I just bought a bunch of 6x8 panels, too. HAve been seeing lots of them on WetCanvas, and had to try. I 've done a few, never had worked smaller than 9x12 very often. You're making me want to really get that stack out and do more! Thanks for sharing.

Shirley,

All very lovely paintings and compositions. You've done a great job with your distance and that atmospheric effect.

The second stands about the rest. Those trees are perfect. Very organic. The small one helps the big one read as massive. Great work.

Re: Arizona in afternoon light

Shirley, I haven't used raw sienna often in my palette, but your subdued, warm coloring makes me want to pull it out again! Lovely work. BTW, if your sunflowers were done from life in the studio instead of en plein air, you can post them to the Artwork from Life main forum instead of here. Thanks!

Jamie
