Technical Help for Painting Black

Hello, everyone,

I am seeking some guidance. Here is the question: in painting a jet black horse, is it OK to glaze over Ivory Black? I have heard that Ivory Black, when painted "straight" - which in some parts I have - is sure to cause any other paint applied over it, such as in glaze layers, to crack. Anyone have experience with this? If I was not supposed to put down straight IB, how best to paint the truly black animal?

Thanks for advice...
