Re: Cactus Flower

It is in many ways effective! The composition pleases me, the intermingled swirl of thorn and flower, nice! The thorns are well done and the color of the flowers though somewhat muted for a cactus are nonetheless in harmony with the over all and they like the thorns have a pleasing shape. Just one small thing: The flowers may have benefitted from being painted dry-brush instead of wet on wet. They do not have the silken shine of a cactus flower, but seem more as if they are heavy/thick petaled , made out of clay as it were. That being said I think it is still a super painting.

Re: Cactus Flower

I particularly like the way that you have painted the thorny background. It is a good painting but the flowers are too similar in colour and look a little pasted on. If you brought some of the flower colour into odd places in the background , it would pull things together. Having said that, I think this is very well painted indeed. Chammi.

Re: Cactus Flower

Thanks Corvus and Chammi for your comments. I think this is a more colorful painting than the photo shows it to be

Thanks Corvus and Chammi for your comments. Corvus, I've never tried dry-brushing water color.... guess I've never even thought about doing it but I will certainly try! Chammi.... thanks... there is some of the flower color in the background but perhaps there should have been more.... thanks again... Donna
