FREE GLASSWORK SCREEN SAVER
Arrow Springs is offering a free screen saver, and we want you to participate by supplying images of your flameworked, blown or fused glass. Images of your work, as well as that of other artists, will be displayed consecutively, in slide show fashion, on the computer monitor when the screen saver is activated. This is a great opportunity to not only share your work with other people in your field, but it is also an excellent venue for offering a link to your web site other than through traditional methods.
How to get the screen saver
· The screen saver is available for free download to anyone.
· It works on any PC running any version of Windows from 98 to present. A monitor resolution setting of 800 X 600, or higher, is recommended. More than likely your monitor is already set to one of the higher resolutions.
· The screen saver will download by simply clicking a link on the Arrow Springs web page. The screen saver is downloaded as a self-extracting ZIP file, which will perform an automatic installation. It has preset defaults, but you can change them to suit yourself. You will still have access to all of your existing screen savers and our screen saver can be uninstalled, if desired.
· Once installed, the screen saver will go to the Arrow Springs host site and download approximately 25 images.
· Once a week, while the computer is idle and the screen saver is running, it will check the host site for new pictures and download them automatically.
· The program does not access anything on your computer or report anything to anyone.
What the screen saver does
· The screen saver operates the same as a typical screen saver, in that it automatically starts after a user set period of computer inactivity.
· An artist’s image of glass work is displayed along with the artist’s name, a line of text that says “press SPACE BAR to go to”, followed by the artist’s web site address.
· Images from all participating artists are sequentially displayed for 6 seconds each, and show the same pertinent information.
· If the SPACE BAR is pressed, while the screen saver is active, your default internet browser will launch and go to the displayed artist’s web site. If any other button is pushed or if the mouse is moved, the screen saver works just like any other. It clears itself from the monitor’s screen.
