This is a specialized forum where members may share ways in which they have used their plein air paintings to create new art in the studio.
Each thread should be accompanied by at least one plein air reference image. Artists may use photographs in addition to the plein air work as references.
Work done exclusively from photos, or
in-studio work done from life (still life, portraits, figures, etc.) that is not plein air, should continue to be posted to the "Non Plein Air thread" in the Plein Air forum or in the appropriate subject forums, rather than in this sub-forum.
It is our hope that this subforum will help our community explore derivative works from our plein air paintings, while maintaining a direct connection to those paintings. Examples of work appropriate for this forum would include:
- Making a studio enlargement of a plein air painting;
- Using a plein air painting plus photographs to create a new work of art;
- Painting a scene from a photo, using a plein air painting as a color/light reference;
- Creating a new studio painting based on a previous plein air painting with changes in light, such as making a nocturne out of a daytime painting.
