Kayan woman

I havenít done many pastels in a while and was sticking to oils. But i felt the itch come back up and picked up my pastels once again. Done on uart 800 grit black paper. The stars of this one were my nu pastels. I always skip over them but I really worked with them this time and just kept thinking ďwhy donít I use them more?Ē So hereís to that...

I took the liberty to rotate your image. I hope that is okay. I really like your palette choices. The colors add such an uplifting, happy mood to your subject. How do like the dark Uart?

Itís awesome to have a properly oriented painting uploaded so of course it is ok . I donít know Iím just in love with how blue and green backgrounds play off the skin tones. They brighten up everything. As for the dark uart Iím in love with dark surfaces. I donít like light paper to be honest. Iíve kept a track of my color choices and I really change my palette when I work with a dark surface.

I haven't touched my oils in months... and need to get back to them. I may have to do alternate months.... one with pastels, one with oils.... as I don't enough room to have two different work stations set up. Your portrait is lovely. I especially like the way the light hits different points of the round brass rings. Or are they gold? And it did cause me to wonder, in cultures wear these rings, are they able to remove them to sleep? I, too, like the dark UArt paper as it makes colors seem to pop even more.

Re: Kayan woman

I have done a similar painting in watercolor and know that it isn't easy to paint those rings and I would think doing these rings in pastels would not be easy - Kudos to you Lakshmi - beautiful work!!!

Thank you all for the response. And Mike, I think they have specialised pillows to help with sleeping with the necklaces on. I believe their necks can't support their weight otherwise.
