Christel, wow! You captured the cowboy so well. If he is at the horse stables when we go to Red River, I will show it to him! Very nice.

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

I practiced with the watercolors. A version of the chickens. Sketched with a ZIG Millennnium 05 (blue) first, then the wc. It is about 12 x 9 inches in a watercolor sketchbook by Canson.

Christel, you did the shading so well on the cowboy. Excellent.

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

Thanks, Hud. I see some water drops and more, but it is practice none the less. I'm not fond of chickens or watercolors so..... Thanks for the kind words.

Jo: Too cute! I love the colors you used. You may not be fond of watercolors, but they sure work on this piece!

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

I love your chickens, Jo. You challenged yourself by the sound of it, as you said you don't like chickens or watercolor. Your lack of fondness doesn't show - this turned out so well!

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

Your chickens turned out just splendid, Jo, so you must have done something right using that medium

I suppose these are New Mexico aspens at least that is the title for now, done today 8x8 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper.

I struggled thru it as I'm no good at landscapes nor trees but need the practice.

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

Lovely trees, Kay! Have you tried using a small natural sponge for the foliage yet?

Thanks!
Yes I have used the sponges but don’t like the marks they make.

Re: August Monthly Challenge - Everyone Welcome

Thanks all y'all.

Kay, love your aspens and the technique. I had the photo in a reference folder so not sure where they are .. New México sounds good. :-)
