Re: Scavenger Hunt #572, Jan 12- Jan 20

Thank you all for your kind words.

I went out sketching briefly with my BangkokSketchers group today...I seemed to be overwhelmed with so many trees and things... The Princess Mother Memorial Park was decorated with a giant ban of pink+purple around the central area.

#7 palm ... there were a few palm trees in the pictures on the left bottom corner

Ai, that is a great study and I do see palms. I was hoping someone would find palm trees. I was thinking Joe would do one ... Hmmmm. Sketching landscapes is difficult, you are right. I find it harder here where there are so many trees, too.

Thanks for Hunting with us, everyone.

I'm getting one in at the end. I have been looking at the hand holding the apple as I come into my studio. The hand was a bit creepy in real life. Finally wiped it off and did this one in pastels. About 8 x 10 or so, reused paper.

Number 9 Jar
Number 10 nuts (in the jar, not too distinct)

See all y'all next Hunt.

Sorry I got distracted and didn't get back her until now.

Ai - Thank you. The shape of that plant is great!!! Nice outdoor sketch too. Happy Birthday!
Paul - Thanks. The vibrant colors were from a fountain pen set that was sent to me to try (with other materials) and then send feedback to the company. Nice ellipses on your tea pot. I like the landscape with the boat...very New England. Hope it isn't all covered with snow by now. We only got rain from the storm...and ice later today I'm sure.
Kat - Thanks so much. Great hand sketch and I love the foreshortening on the toes!!
Robin - What a great sketch of the laundry room!
Jo - Thank you and thanks for hosting. Nice still life. Did you get to drink the wine? Comfy spot on the porch. Good sketch of the jar and juicer, but that pastel of the jar is awesome!!

8 - furniture (backs of chairs at the coffee shop_ = ink
9 - square menus on the wall
10 - sticky buns in the showcase (they were good)
11 - collection of trees after the snow the other day - gouache

Oooops, Ai. It is pastel over wiped off pastel. I could put pastel over watercolor, but don't know how to do a watercolor over watercolor. I'm smiling.

Joan, the snow sketch is super beautiful. Love the coffee shop. Makes me hungry.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #572, Jan 12- Jan 20

Well I pretty much missed out participating in this hunt, and it looks like I missed a good one. Nice work everyone.

I have been trying to learn how to do trees in watercolor. None are from life but jo did want some palms. So here you go.

There are well over 2500 kinds of palm trees. I know like 5 by name and type. I do not know the names of any of these.

Did some research and the one on right is one I know but did not recognize. It is a Royal Palm. Center one is a Sabal Palmetto which is also Florida State tree. One on the left I think is a Cabbage Palm. So I now know 7.LOL

Keep sketching
Joe

Hey, Joe! Thanks for the palms. I was sure you had one in your front yard. These are cool and thanks for the names. Royal palms seem to be the famous ones in Hawaiian and Florida beach scenes. Fun to paint!
