a comment

This is a fine rendering. My comment here is subjective and that comment is: I would like to see more color/brilliance in the lower background. The upper background is very bright and I believe that the lower background should either be brighter or of a color...like red...which shows up more.

If darkness was the object of the lower background then I think that the background should be darker...and defined in a way that to a degree matches the upper background. The circles are not doing it for me.

Keep up the good work.

Oh yes, a second thought. The white lines/squares that surround the centerpoint might be of differenet widths. Perhaps the series starting wide at the center and then trailing off to the sides with narrower and narrower lines.

I like the bright black/white background at the top. It reminds me of polished aluminum. I agree that the darkness and circular shapes at the bottom detract from the bright, multi-faceted, polished look at the top. It would be interesting to see how it looks if the top half were reproduced and flipped to replace the current bottom half. About adding color: Like I said, I like the black/white polished metal look but it might be interesting to play with some reflected color. As a series, it might be interesting to place different colored objects: red ball, etc. in front of the background and see how the reflected image and color works.

I think this works just the way it is for several reasons.

*there is tension created by pushing the viewer first to the center through the diminishing geometrical squares...
*yet, after that "grab", one sees more
*light is above.... dark below
*i see "arms" or reaching from behind the bars....
the precise, geometric "severity" in the forground forces the viewer to go deeper within and the circular forms contrast with a softness yet they are dark.... they have a halo...
those forms lead upwards to the light due to the curvature placement.....
so......
it finally takes us up.

*there is a tug-of-war in this for me....... and I would not add anything more. yes, first impression for me is it's severe..... yet, it also has a softness lying underneath.... a secret....and the top seems to crown it off in light.
it's like an offset convergence or mergence.

Thanks all for your comments. I think ladywolf1 described best what I intended with this. You could call it an exrcice in extremes Light-Derk, Squares-Circles and also the fact that you can discover things in it. At first glance you only see the squares. They lead you to see eithrt thr light yop or the dark bottom I guess some part of the observer's personality will decide where he goes) To find in the end that the white squares aren't so white at all.

I enjoy the hard shapes "over" the organic shapes--its a wonderful "illusion" --and of course it has a "hypnotic" affect. I agree with the other poster about the "aluminum" feel--very nice!! The top of the piece is definately the best part of this -- the arcs coinciding with the hard edges is superb and I would like to see more of that kind of "action" at the very base to make it all feel more complete and unified
