It's funny, you say 'be gentle' so you can obviously see all the crap areas but all I can see is one awesome piece coming together!!

Thumbs up Re: The Nicest People

I think this work is absolutely amazing. How do you get the chrome parts to look so realistic?

Re: The Nicest People

Susie, I wish I could answer that, but I honestly don't track any particular "technique"; in trademarked Indiana Jones fashion, I simply "make it up as I go". Each texture, highlight, or tone is a challenge I take on as necessary with a growing variety of tools. I'm legitimately sorry I don't have a more helpful answer.
Anywho...more progress. I'm planning to spend most of the day on this thing (setting aside time for an IHOP run in an hour or so!).

You can see I've added more guide lines...I had lost a ton of information to smudging, so now my challenge today is to finish motorcycle #1 (the SL250) and maybe even get a start on the C110 behind it. Wish me luck!

For those of you unaware, my completely updated and vastly improved website is now up and fully functional. Give it a look at www.chiarostudio.net !

Matthew, this is just going to be stunning, absolutely stunning.

Margaret, loved your painting too. A PINK motorcycle.

Re: The Nicest People

Thank you, Carol (and Margaret, and Patrick, and, and...). So much support and help in this forum. Just an amazing group of folks!

More progress, and lightening/removal of some of the brighter guidelines. HATE looking at them on the scan!

Re: The Nicest People

Love it, Matthew! Someday I might tackle chrome, but not yet. You do such a wonderful job that it intimidates me.

I always welcome C & C. Even if I have finished it and applied fixative, I can always apply your thoughts to the next one.

So shiny! I love it. And excellent work on all those mechanical bits and bobs. This is going to be a stunner when done!

Re: The Nicest People

Sunday/Monday morning was my best full day of progress thus far on this one! I do think I like where this is going.

Just a gas tank badge and tire from finished with motorcycle #1, and starting on bits of #2 in the background...

Re: The Nicest People

Continuing our saga...

...actually, I'm hoping to finish the bulk of this thing tomorrow then spend the week picking out final touches and re-inking where necessary. Spraying Thursday would be ideal, if I can manage it. Wish me luck and aligned planets...

Still sitting here with my popcorn, watching the show. You are coming along nicely.

I really like this.
How detailed will the background one be?

Re: The Nicest People

All three will be as fully realized as I can manage, Patrick. My big internal debate is whether to ground them in grass as per the reference photos or on flooring like a dealer display, maybe with a little reflectivity in the tile...?
