There is a login bug on this site. After some investigation, i think I have tracked down a reproducable pattern.
Since you can't see this Bug Report post from the main forum list, I had no idea it existed. So I have already posted the problems and observations here:

I'm unable to attach images to a post using the Manage Attachments dialog due to an 'Upload of the file failed' error. This is a wonderful forum except for that show-stopping bug. It amazes me that on as large and popular a forum as this that this bug can persist for years.
I seldom even bother trying now, too bad, just finished a painting.

No, I'm on WinXP. BTW, a little while ago I gave it another try and was successful...
Glad it worked that once.
Unfortunately just tried another image upload and get the same error described earlier.

This is probably known, but non-ASCII (?) characters in a filename in the forum picture uploader doesn't work. Specifically, i tested with å and ä on Windows 7 / Firefox. A better error message, a warning text, or automatic filename conversion would all be improvements if solving the actual issue is too hard.

Yes, these are illegal characters. Often the reason why files won't upload.
I'll check the uploader advice.

WC is working good for me now(I'm always logged in) as far as the current issues have been, but I notice that I get a security certificate error message when the site loads. I have Windows XP, IE8.
I'll check & make sure I have all my root certificates updated from MS.
I wasn't sure if this might still be a hiccough from all the maintenance work done in the last few days.

Security certificates aren't that vital, some sites have 'en others don't.

I can't change my avatar, been trying all day but I get the unable to upload message. My new avatar is w/in the limits: jpg, 60 x 60, 8 kb. Could this be a result of the recent upgrade rather than a fussy uploader? Thanks.

So long as the file complies with the 60 pixel square requirement and contains no illegal characters it should upload. However the avatar uploader has an intermittent fault so I can only advise you try on another day.

Hi Doug
With my slow dialup, I have plenty of time to watch the line at the bottom of the screen that lists what's loading when I enter WC. For probably over a year now, I've often seen things listed as loading that never visibly show up on the page as any kinds of links.
Any idea what that's all about?
In case it matters, I almost always enter WC via the Ab/Con forum, so that's where I've been noticing these oddities.
