Has anyone seen this "Open Source Art" video?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18839324

I'm not sure I get the point. Do you think this is successful?

They are creating a direct connection with their market. It is a great marketing idea if you are comfortable with putting yourself out there in that way. It is just a video or social networking blog.

For some reason the sound wouldn't work on this computer so I'm not sure what's going on. How is this different than using Youtube to market yourself?

Some members are using video as part of their promotional work. They may post shortly.

Re: Has anyone seen this "Open Source Art" video?

Most of the artists who I follow online use time-lapse videos, behind the scenes videos, and work in progress images in their blogs.

I prefer these artists a whole load more than ones who don't. I'd probably be more likely to buy one of their works if I can see the process and the person I'm supporting.

These two guys are talking like they're doing something groundbreaking however, when really I think it's just what any artist who grew up with the internet has realised is the way forward in art.

If I'm understanding what they are doing it's definately not groundbreaking. Artists have been doing this same thing on YouTube for years.

Okay, I finally remembered to try the link at home. I see the difference for the one artist is he actually does live streaming. The other thing with the stop action is really nothing new. I imagine some day I'll have to do the stop action eventually but I think I'll be drawing the line at live streaming except maybe for planned sessions, I'm not interested in becoming a reality show.

The least the artist could do is narrate the dang thing, otherwise it's really no different than a gallery on a website except now you're forcing people to watch through a bunch of paintings they may not be interested in. I've never watched one these videos all the way through.
