Aww I love your pictures! So cute, all of them! Love the bird. Omg it would be a difficult one to paint though, I think..

Re: FFS Animal & Wildlife Monthly Challenge - August 2012
Quiet here! I hope we have a lot of interest this month. I know it's back to school but take a little time for yourself, too. Even a small ATC is acceptable to enter.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Jess - Yes tis quiet here isn't it? I guess that means we're all painting away furiously!
I begun mine and then left it for more urgent stuff but I'll get back to it today, promise.

LouiseMarie - Hi there and welcome to the August Challenge.
You have until the end of the month to paint one of the references. At the beginning of next month new photos will be posted with a new Host.
If you don't have time to take part this month, do join us next month. It's lots of fun deciding which photo ref to use and exciting waiting on "reveal day' which is always the 20th of the month, and then on until the month ends.

Re: FFS Animal & Wildlife Monthly Challenge - August 2012
This is the reference I will work from! The other background looked a bit too complicated for a newbie like me so I decided to go with this more simple route. I did a colored pencil sketch tonight and I feel like I'm ready to start soon, but I wont have time the next few days sadly. On the brightside, I'll be in Santa Claus, IN at Holiday World riding water slides Saturday! Haha!! I'm prettyyy excited.

So very cool bird that was done!!! Here's my interpretation of the "pelican". Done with Coloursoft coloured pencils and washed with "Zest It ", on stonehenge grey...

Re: FFS Animal & Wildlife Monthly Challenge - August 2012
My bad, very bad, very sorry. I just realized in this challenge we are not to post until after the 20th, I'm sorry. I'm used to the other challenges on other forums just post as you do the challenges. I tried to figure out how to delte the post, but I guess only the moderator can do that. I again, my apologies...

Do not worry too much! What kind of host would I be if I made you feel bad!? You are new and it is easy to get caught up in the photos and pick one go for it, heehee.
I do love your pelican and your "sneak peek" gave us a little relief from the dreary wait!
Thank you for contributing and I hope you will continue to join us... The bright side? You have time to do another if another photo sings to you in time for the reveal on the 20th. No pressure <wink>
Either way, thank you for joining in!

Great job tweaking down the background. I was terrified to take on the challenge but decided to try that picture, too, anyways. I just let the watercolors blend and bleed but I omitted the crossbars and just dolloped colors using the variety of color (the entire rainbow is behind that bird, whew!) but just letting the watercolors do their own thing.
I think your interpretation may just make a few others take the plunge of what might have been an overwhelming undertaking into a pleasant one. Thank you!
Jess

Re: FFS Animal & Wildlife Monthly Challenge - August 2012
Hi all - I'm just back from a week's holiday.
Just in time to post as it's Monday 20th August here in NZ and I see we've already begun.
Tammy - I love the expression on your pelican's face and great job on his feathers. Don't apologise, as it's easy to forget the date and we're so glad you posted.
miou jhu - Lovely loose painting of the pelican.
Well here's mine - 9in x 12in - acrylic on watercolor paper.
I loved the bright colors of this flamingo.
C & C's welcome
