Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
I love the Olympics and all the athletes... call me crazy but my favorite each Olympics is the last marathoner into the stadium. I applaud all the athletes perseverance and love of the sport and all the hard work and dedication that got them there.
And from an artist's point of view... I think the Olympic torch is the most beautifully crafted ever.

torch or cauldron ??? i thaught the torch was ugly
but the couldron was a stunningly beautiful conception that got lots of kids involved in the assembly at the opening ceromony then the famous athletes passing the honour on to young up and comming athletes to light it and then the engineering and art involved a truely inspirational idea braught to fruition spectacularly
very inspirational

I guess I meant cauldron... truly inspired and I love that each country will take home a bit of it.

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
I watched the athletics and saw athletes that have trained all of their lives (especially the last four years) for this one moment break down with injuries or trip, get caught on heels of others and I cannot even begin to imagine the emotion these people go through. The gains of winning are phenomenal and future security almost guaranteed. However, a hamstring pulled, a stride short or the slightest self doubt and life has to begin all over. It's not easy to pick oneself up from such devastation and I hope the affect that these things have on the athletes, are the minimum possible.
I am thoroughly enjoying watching.

I'm watching the USA v Canada at ladies soccer, what a great game! Far better than the male footballers. These girls play with passion and they're far more attractive looking than most other teams

it is an intresting thaught i have always believed paula radcliffes problem with the olympics is psychological rather than there being any physical problem as it is confusing why she can manage ok in normal marathons against the same athletes but always has problems at the olympics !!

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
I think GB is doing extremely well these Olympics! Good for them.
I remember in the 2010 Winter Olympics, Canada(host country) did great as well. Ithink there's something about competing on "home turf" that gives our athletes a boost.
One could go into the scandals, & at times poor officiating at the games, but I am so proud of the athletes that participate who just want to represent their respective countries well. A lot of hard work goes into preparing for events & competitions. All who participate in good faith & with sportsmanship should be applauded.

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
Team GB lack good track athletes, in fact, they may as well stay at home or go to the doctors.
I watched with interest as two athletes got disqualified with false starts. Then there was a technical error that caused a false start, so why wasn't the starter disqualified from starting another race...

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
Hey! Shadwell (My reform school was called Shadwell, not too fond of that name, haha!), I saw Jessica Ennis and the long jumper, brilliant. Yorkshire and Scotland are making the southerners look good, It shouldn't be called the London Olympics, it should be called the Northern Olympics

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
Another thing, that penalty in the USA v Canada... Well, anyone that can get their arm out of the way of a ball traveling that speed at that distance must be superhuman, NEVER a penalty - Canada should have won. Or ref should be publicly stoned!

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
I especially enjoyed seeing Usain Bolt keeping his world's #1 form and winning the 100m and 200m again.
Daniel Rushida's 800m victory was the most impressive run at that distance I've ever seen. None of that come-from-behind business for him. He led the whole way and simply ran away from his competition.
I noticed a lot of good sportsmanship between athletes of all the countries. There was an incident in which the American silver medalist in the decathlon was seen to have stepped on the inside line of his lane in his 400m run. A disqualification would result from this if any of the competing athletes' countries lodged a protest, but so far no one has even though everyone has seen the video of the infraction. Apparently the other competitors felt the American had gained no real advantage by the misstep and didn't want to deprive him of his well-earned silver medal. That is really nice to see and I hope it holds up.

Re: Go Great Britain in the Olympics
We get the reruns in the evening on the east coast. So I go up to my studio and and watch while I paint. Every evening sense the start. It's great to watch all the sports and all the faces. The best photo shots are the ones of the athletes who are so thrilled to just be there. To have the opportunity to represent their country. Win / Lose their all champions in my book just because they worked hard and went for it.
