Re: Mm2248

Would you pay $13,802,500 for this painting? Somebody did, almost 3 years ago.

I reckon the artist painted it in about half an hour.

He was Dutch.

"Jeune Arabe," by Kees van Dongen, oil on canvas, 40 1/8 by 25 3/4 inches, 1910

This painting was referred to as one of the "purest Fauve works". Fauvism extended primarily between 1904 and 1908, making this a rather late work of the period.

Re: Mm2248

Right, CC.

Glad to know he actually painted it, I was wondering if it was by Elmyr de Hory.

"purest Fauve works," well, that was Emmanuel Di Donna, vice chairman, Sotheby's, puffing it. He also mentioned "the power of color with great subtleness" of the painting. Oh, yeah.

Some people will puff anything, especially if they can make money out of it.
