Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Thanks for popping in Darla and reading my ramblings I'll keep posting here if I know someone is looking
This is one from last weekends WDE - MaryY Posted a beautiful photo with amazing clouds and I only got around to it yesterday. It was the first time I have actually painted clouds - in the past I have just left white or lifted the colour off - so another learning step for me. The empty beach gave me trouble but I did like the emptiness of it in the photo so I just dabbed a bit of colour on, added some footprints and speckles. Next step for me is to learn how to do simple and effective foregrounds

Very beautiful, Ros! I like the open space of the beach. Nice rocks and clouds!

Wow, Ros, if that is your first attempt at clouds this is very well done! I really like the textures in your rocks also.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Hi Ros
Liked the beach scene...I think footprints and speckles are a good solution to foregrounds. Looking forward to further creative solutions from you. Like your sky. Sometime ago Yorky recommended a blog site called Channeling Winslow Homer. He had some interesting information about skies so I spent sometime doing just skies on 1/4 sheet. Must get around sometime to putting something at the bottom so that they actually make a painting.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Tommy, Gail, Debra and Wendy Thanks for visiting and commenting. I guess you are still looking so you get another post
This was last weekends painting for WDE - I was hosting and I put up a challenge to paint in the style of an admired artist - so many I admire and I think if I try a little of each something may rub off eventually and I'll get to find my own style.
1/4 sheet fabriano 300g.
Painted from my own reference photo it is an attempt at trying to get some of the lovely watery fusions of colour that is seen in the works of the great Charles Reid. It worked in a few miniscule places but many, many more paintings need to be attempted before I can get anywhere near coming to grips with this technique. Oh well – onto the next one.

Very beautiful paintings. I particularly like the roses in the painting with the fruit and ceramic birds.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Thanks for the inspiration. I'm very new, and just learning my way around WC - so appreciative of your posting a hyperlink to WDE - kept wondering what that was in previous posts. A real, real beginner, just "studying" Jeanne Dobie's book Making Color Sing, & doing "exercises" from it in my journal.
Thanks again for this great thread.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Tommy, Wendy, Irena, Kathy, Wendy, Pat and Sas, thanks for looking and commenting. I haven't done much in watercolours this last week or so - just this little one as an exchange ATC in gouache. This is hard work painting at this size, but I'm still having fun and still learning. I posted a progress step in the gouache corner for this.
Critiques are always welcome and appreciated.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Great job on the still life, Ros...I am also a HUGE fan of Charle's Reid & agree that his technique (although it looks easy) is extremely hard! You did very well with it...
