Welcome, FW. Sandra's thread here is a lot of fun, I think you will enjoy it. It's pretty non judgemental group, so feel free to post your work and sketches of ideas, tests and such.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Welcome, FW. Hope to see you visit often and some of your sketches too.

Thank you, Candace, Jake.

Joe, that girl has incredible hair with spongebob. I've never really watched spongebob before and didn't realize he is afraid of height and speed. Such a great expression on him!

Jake, I wouldn't recommend the China marker. It is super soft and waxy although it goes on a lot of surfaces and has the flexibility of exposing a long lead as you peel off the paper that wraps around it but I am not sure if it will break easily or not. It also doesn't smudge much and totally waterproof.

Last night I finally hung up around 30 pieces of art at our local senior center in an unofficial show. This is the first time I could see my pieces lined up down the wall side by side to compare frames, matting and size and how things look from afar and learnt a lot just hanging up the pieces with the two guys who worked with me.

I made a slideshow out of it and hope you would tell me your favorite. In the next few months, the art association I joined will let me hang work at two city halls and I want to send the strongest pieces there with proper matting and frame.

Eventually, I want to be professional enough to have a real one person show that could generate sales.

Didn't do art at lunch. Had to lie down in the car to rest my back.

Very cool, Sandra!

Now I thought I would share this site I found. There are some instructions there and there are a lot of images of people in various poses. The site is:
http://www.artsyposes.com/
The FAQ page says it is ok to use the images.

clap ! clap ! clap! You wrote that song just the morning before performing? I watched the entire 5 mins plus. What fun you have there. Not only you are a great artist, you are a very engrossing performer and great video editor. Such fun to see the video in techno colors!

So you manage a restaurant, perform, and draw. I wonder what you would reveal next. Probably some fantastic sports skills!!!

Hey Joe! I also left praise at the video site- way cool! Keep the blues alive; a lot of contemporary rock is bleh. I have a family friend with a top blues band in the Philly area. Ever hear of Everett Gray?

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Finally, the weekend is in sight and within grasp. My poor legs and back. I need the weekend 48 hours ago.

These are for the SW forum August challenge.

All on Pentalic 70 lb sketchbook 5.5 x 8 inch

Caran D'ache Neocolor II and wash

Ball pen

Ball pen and Derwent drawing stick

Dr. Ph Martin Bombay India ink - deep pink
Chinese sumi ink and brush
Mungyo oil pastel
More ink
Nero oil pencil
More oil pastel

Another colleague asked me to paint her dog. LOL. I never liked drawing dogs but yeah, I'll give it a try. Better an animal than a human portrait. One other one wants me to copy a calendar page of a summer alley full of flowers. That one would be easy.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

After puttering around the whole morning rearranging my work space so I could sit at least for the duration of a painting and not having to stand, I finished off the back side of a piece of stipple paper from the Bee Company.

Since I have propped up my working surface to 45 degrees or so for the first time so I don't have to bend over and hunch, the only implement I reached for were thicker and faster ones.

Lyra 4B watersoluable graphite, which doesn't give me much color on this particular surface when washed. Not sure why.
Koh I Noor Woodless Colored pencil, non watersoluble type so I could keep some sort of grain and texture and not washed away
Derwent Inktense and watercolor to add dots when steeped in water
Finally to add more color - Caran D'Ache Neocolor II wet and dry - now I appreciate this more since it allows broader strokes

Around 2/3 page of 9x12 inch

a copy of a magazine photo

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Thanks, Joe.
I think the boots should have been bigger. My son tells me he likes it the way it is.
Sandra, Looks like an ant. I ran into my first yellow jacket, (bee) at a potluck this week. So, I guess they are coming into season.
The bull the turtle sheep and flower are all good, too.
The ink work looks nice and sharp.

Nice job.

Alright, everyone, let's start a new thread. I didn't realize it was on page 56 already. It's very long.
