Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge AUGUST - ALIENS!!!!
There is a lot of talk in the alternative community news lately about aliens, so I thought that, just in case we can make this month's challenge about them! Scary ones, movie ones, whimsical, and even cute aliens are all game! Including those you come up with....
This is an activity thread for artists of all experience levels, and that work in any medium. Being traditional painting, drawing, or digital art. Since this is a group activity, we can pool our knowledge and resources, and grow as artists in a fun, no-pressure atmosphere. No critiques unless specifically asked for. Please, no harsh critique! The intent is to have fun, try new things, and experiment.
I look forward to seeing your work!
Markes and inks on Bristol!

Thanks. At first I was going to show him with eyes closed, (a more mystical look) but then I decided against that as I wanted him to look like, whatever it is he's doing, he means business.

That's really good drawing. Yeah, he looks like a tough guy with a lot of dark thoughts in his mind.

Re: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge AUGUST - ALIENS!!!!
An Annunnaki profile I did last year (This is the only thing I have done digitally but I figured I'd post it anyways.) Normally I do oil on canvas.

Its basically my rendition of what the Annunnaki would look like judging by the skulls that have been found, I also think its where the egyptians got their inspiration for having cone shaped headwear.
Its likely also where the classical picture of a red "demon" came from.
Enjoy!

Re: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge AUGUST - ALIENS!!!!
Thought I contribute a few of my recent drawings of alien creatures from my sketch book some of you might enjoy since I have no recent finished illustrations of any. Ok these are a bit cutesy but I do draw the more serious types as well but not recently.
Drawing/doodling made up creatures are some of my favorite things to draw. If you enjoy them that is up to you.
My favorite technique of drawing and doodling is to use a blue erasable sketch pencils that drafters and animators use and then draw in the details with a regular writing pencil. I do it this way since it helps me to draw loose and not worry about the details so soon and that way I can draw the shape and attitude of the body and or face down before any thing else.
Sometimes I like to draw from imagination, dream or start with an inspiration like the shape of something that I saw earlier.
The vicious looking one the left is a sap sucker. Its not a meat eater but it might possibly pack a powerful defensive punch possibly to protect its self if not respected. The creature on the right is and insectivore.
Both are based on that tree seed pod.
I might draw some more creatures when I get some free time. Which is not much.
A sweet little martian type girl. Maybe?.......
This creature is based on a mayfly.
This cuddly creature hides a powerful punch as well.
This reptile like creature is inspired by those stupid hand puppets from some children's show.
Cute little clumsy bundle of mischief.
 Based on those staple removers.
Tripod creature is based on those camera and tripod setups. it uses its tail as a third leg. The other creature is just imagination.
Thanks.

SnowTabby, I LOVE these creatures you invented! So creative and is just fine they are "cute". But like you say, ya better not mess with these critters if they don't favor you, because they look like they could sting or bite big time.
They are well designed, too, and shows you know how to draw and use the tools.
Your work reminds me a little of one of my fave artists, Rodney Matthews. I have his art book and a large collection of fantasy art books I treasure.

Re: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge AUGUST - ALIENS!!!!
SnowTabby such great drawings! I admire people so creative ... I can draw what I see but I really need to practice drawing and painting from imagination ... I really suck at that.
They are all great! My favorite is the staple removable one!

Wow. Sorry they were so big. Never sure how much resizing WetCanvas image processing will do. Ciao!
