Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Irena, Gail, Oty and Robert Thanks for looking and commenting.
Gail, I looked at Steve Flemings blog and his jump starts are great. I will look at this in more detail and try some of his exercises. Thanks a lot for that.
I have been a bit remiss with my postings here so I'm including some I have painted (not in my journal ) from other forums.
First, from Doug's watercolour challenge - Scotney Castle painted on Fabriano Studio. I'm definetly over this paper but just trying to use it up.
From KreativeK's challenge in Watermedia painted on gesso over yet another failed watercolour.
Lastly, from the last WDE - a quick little sketch with a problem foreground so I added a little pastel in that area. I do need to practise foregrounds as well.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Bonnie, thanks for looking and commenting.
Messing around today with my Holbein brush pen today and Pebeo pan palette doing quick sketches. The old man and woodchopper are from this weeks WDE and the others are just doodling - trying to get the water / colour ratio worked out and watching wet in wet colours fuse together. I might do more of these exercises using quality pigments and paper so that I might be able to predict the results a little better than I can at present.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
I really love your sketches, Ros! I'm far behind in my 100's project now... I think I'll have to widen the scope from just garden pics, because in winter the garden is a bit down...

CK. Thanks for popping in and commenting. Good to see you here. I was wondering what happened to you. Hope you are still painting and life hasn't gotten too much in the way.
Tommy, yes - winter is miserable in our garden too. Just grab and paint something from indoors - says she who never does But keep at it.

Ros, I like the idea of daily painting even is it is only a scribble it can only improve our skills as artists. I really love your journal.
Well, I worked out how to reply to your post, I think...

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Steinunn I just replied to your comment on my blog and now I see you are already a member I don't actually get to paint or draw every day - but I do think about it all the time - mainly about how I could have painted the last one better or planning the next Thanks for looking and commenting.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Hi Roz!
Had to go hunting for this thread. Glad that I did. Like your doodles and the object of the exercise. Ratio of water to paint and paper! I've been looking at some of the modern masters of watercolor - a lot of Australians - and reading about the wetness of the paper as the major factor in their paintings. I tend to do these doodles on the backs of failed paintings but really need to do them on good surfaces to learn. Like the castle and the garden too. It would be nice to see all the paintings on a page so that you could see the progress...

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
John, Debra, Maribeth and Gail thanks for looking and commenting. I have been thinking about trying to put thumbnails on a sidebar on my blog where you can see all in one go. But I have to learn about widgets and that will take some time for me.
Here is the last WDE painting - Mary's flame lily. I tried for a wild and free background but think I overdid it - not good at backgrounds yet. Sorry Mary, should have left well enough alone, but I had the urge to experiment.
18 x 24 white knight watercolour pans - cad. red, alizarin crimson, lemon yellow, cobalt, ultra blue and indigo with watercolour pencils grated into the wet paint - on fabriano studio 300g paper.

Re: Ros's learning watercolour journal
Ros, your journal paintings are so lovely. I enjoy seeing all the different subjects and reading your comments. It makes me want to start my journal that I've been procrastinating about for quiet some time now.
