Re: blues attitude

I love it, Ed. What an intense expression . And I like a lot the economy of details.

Re: blues attitude

Ed, I have a feeling that the background is not finished, it should probably reflect the light, as his face seems to be lit with warm evening light. I may be wrong.

Re: blues attitude

I don't know if it's the photo or not but the hazy quality around the face works really well

Re: blues attitude

This is so subtle that it immediately makes us think of the late night.
I love taking reference shots when people are engaged in something they love, like playing music. There's something about the unposed figure that has a real naturalness with it.
When you have solved the low-light photo issue- let me know!

Re: blues attitude

hello
thx all
Luicre - he's a performer , with all kinds of expressions for the music
Anna - the photo bg is black ; i started with the green for some ' pop ' ,
and when the face was solid , decided that was enough .
Andy - there were stagelights left into the shadow ,
so it did make a bit of a halo .
Bethany - no life like the night life
i used 800 speed film - had the lab push two stops = grainy blacks out of direct light .
Harry - a WIP that suddenly said ; ' walk Away from the painting '

Re: blues attitude

It's great! I like the lost side, the soft warm light, and your letting it be. He looks a bit like Carlos Santana with an attitude. I plan to get a good digital Nikon for low light- film is nice, but digital can be cranked at will.

Re: blues attitude

If it's not too late, I'd give him an earring that brightens and provides sharp contrast to the painting. Seems like someone did that once before - as in the Pearl Earring?

Re: blues attitude

Wow, very well done! It's really difficult to create a painting with so little information. I can imagine how boring the actual photograph must look compared to your wonderful result.
