Very well said George.

Re: 3 year old boy
Your bg's are usually so nicely blended--now I understand why this bg was so different (the version we saw, that is)--it was what your client wanted!
So, in addition to a lovely portrait, you've done a great job of pleasing the client by changing the background for her!

Re: 3 year old boy
You made his eyes very beautiful. Did the mom request the patterned shirt also?

Re: 3 year old boy
Thanks, everyone! Yes, George, I am always my worst critic, but it is also nice to get critique from you all to see if it was as bad as I thought it was, or as good!
No, Candle, but in the other picture she provided, he had on a plaid shirt, and I thought it would add more interest to the drawing to add the plaid shirt, rather than the plain blue.
Thanks, again!

Re: 3 year old boy
This is the drawing before the customer asked me to darken the green. I was hoping to keep the background in the background. She requested that I lighten his lips, which was a good call.
So, which was better?

In my opinion, the latest is better.

Re: 3 year old boy
Fabulous job on the boy! Eyes & expression very well done but as some mentioned, the background is very distracting. Looks like an afterthought when you did such a great job on the rest. Would suggest to revisit and simplify/tone it done considerably.

Re: 3 year old boy
Thanks for your observations and comments, Terry. But this is a done deal...already given to the client, and as mentioned, she had asked for the green in the background to be darkened. But, I agree with your comment!

Re: 3 year old boy
Well, I think your instincts were right on Char. Your original background was better, in my opinion, before she had you darken the green. But the clients want what they want...so you made the best of it and still turned out a lovely portrait!

Re: 3 year old boy
Sorry I'm a little late to chime in here. I thought I already had, my bad.
Such a cute, happy looking kid. I agree that the original way you had done the background was much nicer. But I think you doing what the client asked for even though it wasn't quiet right was very good of you, so well done
She will always treasure it I'm sure.

Re: 3 year old boy
A really lovely portrait Char and I agree with you it was better before you changed it for your client BUT as they say 'the customer is always right' when it comes to customer satisfaction and getting the money .
Anyway I feel you really captured the personality reflected in the reference and you gave him even prettier eyes Well Done Char
