Chicken of the Sea - xpost AMAE

15x22 watercolor on 300 lb cold press paper, drawn with Micron 01 pen Friday in 10 minutes, then painted in 1.5 hours. This was for the weekend drawing event on AMAE forum, hosted by moderator Dewi. I laid strips of cotton gauze (the kind we used to have in surgery called 'Kling' wrap) on the fish then spritzed green, blue, and yellow dilute watercolor in spray bottles, let dry, pulled off, then mixed grays for the rest. Splattering was done at the end and some tiny touch ups of their mouths...too much fun!
C&C welcome

Kay, this is pretty cool!! Once again, your color choices are wonderful!!!
Can I ask, How did you stop the paint from running or making puddles with using the spray bottles?

What a delight! Love your technique on this one and it turned out so well too. Title made me smile.

Kay, this is so pretty. So the gauze is like those little lines near the fin? What does the gauze do? Put patterns on it or stop the sprays from puddling and retains the form of the fish where you lay them? It's so cheerful a piece. Perfect for any kitchen.

Re: Chicken of the Sea - xpost AMAE

Thanks everyone!
The very small spray bottles have an extra fine mist so no danger of color running unless you spray continuously in one spot. I got the colored bottles (pink, blue, green, and yellow) in WalMart's cosmetics dept. very cheap. As for the cotton gauze or cheesecloth, yes it makes the little lines. You can pull it apart to any desired pattern as the weave is fairly loose. The gauze can be dampened, laid on your paper, then with a loaded brush touch its edge and it wicks the color into itself; when dry, lift off and you've a nice stencil pattern remaining. It could stop the sprays from puddling but I was using it more like a stencil here.
