Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Sigrun, glad to see you back. Been following you on FB and enjoyed your pictures. It is great that you could leave the rugs and hopefully they will all sell.
Bonnie, that was quite the adventure this morning. Hope Tom can get that leak fixed and that you can get the window back up on the car too.
Nothing going on here today. Went to post office to mail off the last bills for the month and stopped at the grocery store and came back home. No really into doing anything today. I did get one load of laundry done this morning early and I might try to work on some sewing later but just don't feel like doing anything. Computer games I think are on my schedule

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Eva, she's cute as a button. What a wonderful outfit you made for her.
Sigrun, so glad you dropped by and your time in Finland was well spent. Leaving the rugs at the ambassador's is great. Glad things are working out so well for you.
Bonnie, what a horrid experience. Hope you get all your rain leaks and windows sorted out.
Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. Have to "borrow" mom's computer. She's been writing most of the time I've been here. I have no idea where the bathroom is at since I'm not there and DH is doing the back and forth. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will all come together soon.
I tried making pants once more after discussing the pattern with mom. They don't fit right. *sigh* Mom insists that I have to have something made before I go home again. Today, we cut out a corduroy jumper. I'm sure I'll be sewing tomorrow as she leaves me to it and returns to her writing. It should fit fine as it's based on the denim jumper I showed you a year and a half ago. (Or was it two years ago?? ) Anyway, she's making dinner, so I'd better go. Doesn't do to keep mom waiting.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
I haven't been around here today and it looks like no one else has been either. Took John this morning to have the wax taken out of his ears. Nice new doctor and we were in and out in less than an hour. Then on to Goodwill where we picked up a couple of things but no dolls.
After that to the drug store with some nose spray for John that the doctor gave him a prescription for. Suppose to help the runny nose and the ear problems he has all the time. Decided we were needed something to eat as it was almost noon so went out to the casino for a 99 cent breakfast. Two eggs, hash browns, ham and toast. Too much food for us but it is good and today was quick.
Don't know what happened to most of the afternoon, I did get some pictures taken of dolls but nothing else got done. Tonight I watched a movie on tv and crocheted. Got this pattern from a friend who crochets a lot and it is for a doll cape from a 1905 pattern. Should finish it up in the next couple of days.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
We're back from a whirlwind trip to Colorado, trying to beat the heat, the trailers and tourists. It was a glorious tho brief vacation. Just enough to have fun not enough to get tired and crabby. A bit of a pilgrimage to places I adored to go in the summer as a child.
Sigrun congratulations on the good reception your rugs received, and such a sterling display venue.
Bonnie, you are a better person than me, I'd had given up on going to the funeral all together with so many impediments to leaving.
Eva, you just keep raising the bar for the rest of us, every single thing you make tops the last!
Jen, big pat on the back at getting your ufo's finished, and amidst such a flurry of other activity.
Debby, maybe the pants and the bathroom will get finished at the same time?
No stitching for me the last week, just returned this morning, but the projects are waiting next to my machine, maybe tomorrow...

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Glad to see you back Margo. Missed your posts and activities.
It has been super windy here since yesterday afternoon and didn't get but about 2 hours of sleep last night. I played on the computer and then made a skirt of a customer doll during the night. John watched tv and played on the computer. We have both taken a couple of naps today and I sure hope we can sleep tonight. I did try this morning working on the blouse for the customer but didn't finish it so tomorrow should be a better day all around.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
I can empathize with lack of sleep on the very windy nights Eva. No one sleeps around here either, restless fretting dog and yowling cat every time. I just get up too, sometimes if I sit on the couch I can at least calm the animals down. The whole west must be windy. It was wicked windy leaving Colorado Springs yesterday, and none to fun on the mountain passes we ended up on accidentally.
I called out for pizza as there is nothing in the house and the local pizza place had sold out of pizzas by 5:00! So the summer tourist season has officially begun. The man went to the post office this afternoon and he said people were parked on the side of the road with their big rigs and boats stocking up at the village store. Surprised they didn't stop at a bigger store on the way, but maybe it's a rite of passage into summer for them.
I guess I'll either have to face the stores or go out to eat, either way means I have to deal with the traffic on our 2 lane highway, hopefully everyone has already arrived! Hate to go tonight as I really need to do laundry tomorrow. All the dirty clothes from the trip and my favorite goodwill for clothes is in Old Colorado City so I have some new treasures to wash. Oh well there are worse problems to have.
Hope you and John get some sleep tonight Eva.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Sooooo............then we went to church Wed night and on the way home in my car the serpentine belt came off and battery light came on, and we drove it on home (we were 1 1/2 miles from home when it happened). Of course it was hard to steer but nowhere to pull over and it was almost dark. We got it up this hill where we live and breathed a big sigh of relief that we made it.
Our neighbor/seller's husband is a mechanic and runs a garage with his brother that is a stone's throw from our house nearly. He is the nicest guy and we brought it in to him Thursday, he had it fixed in a few hours and he just won't charge us a regular price. So glad it's on the road again with a minimum of fuss.
Back later..........

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Hi all! Hope you are having a good weekend. With the wind we had yesterday by last night after dark it was down in the 70's and I opened a window. Unheard of here this time of the year. The wind finally died down for the night and then came back up this morning but I was able to open several windows this morning but sadly by noon the wind had stopped and the temps went up and we are all closed up again with the air running.
I finished up the outfit for the customer's doll this morning and started on a coat for the doll this afternoon but then decided I needed a nap so did that. I did finish up the cape from the 1905 pattern I was crocheting but I don't like it. Yarn was too heavy. Will try again with a different yarn.
Suppose I better start to think about something to eat for dinner so see you later gater.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Bonnie it just has not been your week for cars! I hope this is the end of car troubles for you guys.
Eva, how annoying about the yarn. I had a book with lots of cool old clothing designs, but never could figure out what yarn would be appropriate. So I never made any of the stuff, I also figured with yarn that fine I'd spend the rest of my life working on the thing and then it probably wouldn't fit! I limit myself to scarves these days. Those I can usually finish, though I never did finish the scarf I was working on this winter!
I spent the day sewing. Worked on a couple of bags using up leftovers from one of my skirts. I finally put the elastic in them and sewed them up too. Of course I had to cut another skirt out. I found something to go with some vintage fabric I had only to discover that the vintage fabric when opened had holes in it. I think it was probably from the sizing in the fabric. So into the trash it went and I combined the fabric that was okay with some lovely Japanese fabric left from a shirt I made the man some years ago. Lots of this stuff was saved for going into scrap quilts, but since I have piles of unfinished quilts I see no point in starting new ones, so may as well use that fabric up on something else. You probably remember I had lots of skirts that I ironed earlier, but its just nice to have new things to wear, and nicer still to have some of the piles clearing away!
I went out to the garden earlier to get some vegies to go in a quinoa salad I was making for dinner and...the sky is just kind of cloudy the sun a brilliant red. Smoke from all the fires south of us. Makes me feel like having a bag packed in case of evacuation might be a bright idea, and a tank full of gas in at least one car. Having lived in states where you evacuate for hurricanes and floods, seems the clever way to go for me. Some clothes and the treasures I couldn't bear to lose. So far no fires close by but the lake is filled with Memorial day revelers, and camp fires and booze aren't always a good thing.
Well time to finish clearing the table and make some salmon patties to go with my salad. Sweet dreams all.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Eva, I do believe the whole west coast had winds. We sure did. Glad you were able to finish the doll outfit for your customer. How's the new coat coming along?
Bonnie, sorry to hear about further car troubles. Do hope that's the end of it for a good long time.
Margo, glad you got a mini vacation. Your skirts sound fascinating.
I apologize for not being online more. Mom's internet hasn't been letting me onto WC. I can get to my e-mail, but there is connectivity issues when I try to get to WC. I'm currently at home for a few hours, then back to mom's for another week. The cooler temperatures and high humidity (rain) is keeping things from drying properly and construction cannot continue until things are dry for the next step. So, it looks like I'll be another week at mom's.
I'm currently doing laundry and baking a few GF things to take back with me. As soon as the dryer is done and the clothes dealt with we are heading back. DH is off work today so will be with me.
On the plus side, I have just a tiny bit to tear out and re-do on the jumper I was making. That will give me something new to wear. Mom decided that the aqua colored linen she had bought for a dress (3 years ago) and never made would be better used for a blouse for me. It's cut out and I've got to see if I've got interfacing for the collar before I go back. I am getting clothing made, but I'd rather be home with the bathroom done.
I don't know when I'll be able to log on again. Depends on mom's internet. So, hope everyone is having a creative time and I'll be back as soon as I can. But, it may be a week. Miss you all.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Sure do miss you on here Debby. Sounds like you are getting some clothes made for yourself and that is a good thing. Sorry about the damp weather and the bathroom not done yet. Fingers crossed that you will be back in your own house by next week.
I have been working on a customer order and finished it up today. I will miss making clothes for this 22 inch customer doll but she now has many many outfits so I think this will be the last of them.
Here is the white w/blue dots, blouse and bloomers and denim skirt, the red sweater and hat I crocheted and then the houndstooth heavy wool coat and hat trimmed in faux fur. The wool I have had maybe 25 years along with the vintage buttons.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Wow, I'm impressed with the array of clothes, and 25 years! Well, I think I'm close to having had some of my fabric that long. Some of my buttons are truly ancient, I have the grans button collection and a maiden lady friend of hers who was even older and left all of her sewing stuff to gran, her bachelor brother with whom she lived her whole life sure didn't need it.
Debby I know you are longing to be back in your own house. But sew that linen blouse up fast and maybe your mum will dig out some other fabric treasures for you to sew up. At least you aren't making do at some hotel, and paying dearly for the "pleasure', or having to live 24 hours a day with the fumes. A little internet break every now and then does us all a bit of good. Think of this as a vacation you didn't have to travel far to take, and at the end of your vacation you will have a new bathroom. Now there is the bonus, and you still get to go on your cruise in the fall! Bingo!!!! Sew, sew, sew. I used to make all my kids summer clothes, when I was cooped up at my grans on the annual summer visit, as well as all the cooking, except for breakfast. I don't do breakfast, only coffee.
Smoke was gone today, can you hear my big sigh of relief. Fires aren't out the wind seemed to blow it away and we had lovely blue skies and cool weather today, not cold but cool and pleasant, one of those days where it's impossible to stay inside for very long.
I cleared my sewing table totally and cut a couple more skirts out and put everything else and the cutting mat up so I could sit my machine down in the well where it belongs. My back has been complaining about the height of the machine but I was too lazy to clear the table which grew more cluttered by the day. I got to the bottom ruffle on the skirt but it's only half pinned on. We had no groceries in the house, like not even anything to put in my morning coffee! I can deal without many things, and eat what's in the cupboard but I have to have cream and sugar in my coffee, well actually whole milk and agave nectar, but that's getting a bit prissy! I really hate to be on the road at all during a big holiday like this weekend, especially one that involves big trucks bigger boats, and even bigger coolers filled with alcoholic beverages, all on a 2 lane road! But I'm in my snug little house until the revelry has subsided and they've all gone home.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Quick hello. Am doing less reading and working on computer due to another eye procedure. Things much worse this time but doc says it will heal. Hope so as school year is over and I do need to earn income to live on and fast. Also have a foot injury which is slowly healing, but aside from those things, all is well. Hope all is well with all of you but eyes aren't up to reading just now. Will catch up soon, i hope.

Re: Stitch in Time May 2012
Hi Martha, it is good to see you! Things sound challenging, with eye and foot. My best to you.
And Debby as well. Not easy to be camped out. Hope you make good progress on the sewing.
Margo, a quick trip to Colorado sounds appealing. I understand about wanting to lay low on a holiday weekend. There is a huge celebration here in San Francisco due to the Golden Gate bridge 75 th birthday. I listened to the booms of the fireworks from home.... and you've been wildly sewing as well as Debby. Any photos to share?
Eva, what a fine set of clothes Oh mt your hands are always so busy.
Anyone have suggestions of how to locate the origins of an obscure song? I've been through 44 Google search pages. The song is one from my camp staff days 30 plus years ago. It may be a chant rather than a song. I want to do an art quilt of it, but to ever enter or show, much less sell, I need to know if the lyrics are public domain.
Shoot an arrow in the sky
Sun go away
Shoot an arrow in the sky
Clouds appear
Shoot an arrow In the sky
Rain come down
Rain come down rain come down
Rain come down
rain come down, rain come down
Rain come down
Designs Have been in my head for years on this, so I may just make it and never try to enter it or show it. Not that I have had success with that to date, but one hopes.
And in the meantime other projects await!
All the best to you,
Jen

No ideas Jen. Make the piece and continue to ask around someone is sure to know. Singer songwriters might know.
Hi Martha. Hope the eyes and foot heal quickly.
I'm worn out today, sewed the ruffle onto the bottom of the latest skirt, and cleaned the kitchen, that seems all there is in the cards for the day.
