I love to paint. :D

Hello there, my name is Jeff Boire and it is a pleasure NARY a privilege to meet you. I am open to C&C at anytime, be honest.

I have been painting with oils on canvas for approximately one year. I also enjoy En Plein Air painting; however, my experience in this arena is limited at this time. I have had roughly 4 hours of formal instruction. The rest of my lessons have been the past 100 or so paintings I've completed. I have sold approximately a dozen paintings and some prints mostly through people familiar with me and who just seem to like my work. I have painted portraits, creatures, imaginary themes, landscapes, architecture, abstract, and more.

I find I am attracted to Alla Prima opportunities and I think this is because of my preference for an Impressionist style. I do not prefer any type of realism from a technical or aesthetic perspective.

Some of the areas in which I need to enhance my skills somewhat still involve the fundamentals. I do not draw well and this is an area that requires more study. My depth in a painting is improving but not quite where I am comfortably achieving this routinely. Occasionally I struggle working wet in wet because I am still figuring out where to apply paint and where not to at the appropriate time. En Plein Air, I am getting better at mixing colors but I have a long way to go regarding dealing with moving light and shadows and otherwise displaying effective skill in a timely manner.

Notwithstanding, painting is what I love to do and a recent acquaintance and very accomplished painter referred me to this site as a wonderful resource. Most of my recent work can be seen here: I must post again before I can post an url but if you are motivated look for my name on Fine Art America or google my website. Thank you.

My goal is to earn some critical critique. My friends and family like my style. They know I'm a novice. But I am looking for ways in which to enhance mechanical skill. Thank you for reading and have a tremendous day either in the studio or outdoors!

Jeff

Hi Jeff! Welcome to Wetcanvas! You have definitely come to the right place to learn and share and get exactly the crit you want. We have 3 places for crits: one basically just to show, the second more intense and the third not for the feint of heart.

Also, show in your subject and/or media forum and if you want drop-dead-mean crits, make sure you let them know.

It helped me tremendously when starting out. But also keep in mind always that you take what you can use from them.

And just draw every day. Draw your foot, your hand, your dog, your chair. 20 minutes of careful drawing every day will help you get what you envision in your mind's eye onto your canvas.

Hi Jeff, you should check the plein aire forum out too. Those people are amazing.
