Re: Miatagrrl's sketches: fueled by rain & caffeine
Thanks, everyone! The zoo is one of my favorite places to sketch... hope to get out there again soon.

Re: Miatagrrl's sketches: fueled by rain & caffeine
I was sketching in my neighborhood this week... things within walking distance. Here's a now-decommissioned water tower in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood. I drive or walk by this water tower almost every day, yet I had never stopped to really notice the pattern in the maple leaf motif until I sat across the street to sketch it. So much evades my attention unless I sketch them.

Good tower! It's not easy to get all the struts and so forth all in the right places. Plus the foreshortening as the supporting structure moves 'round. Well done. You are seeing the detail!

It's amazing what one notices when drawing something. Great job on the structure of the water tower.

Good job Tina, amazing how many things there are to sketch when you just look around your neighborhood.

Re: Miatagrrl's sketches: fueled by rain & caffeine
Appreciate your comments, everyone! It's funny how sketching something changes one's appreciation of it. In general, I'm not all that attracted to mechanical or industrial structures like this water tower, but once I sat down and focused on it, I realized how much of it I had never seen, like those struts.

Tina - I've enjoyed seeing your sketches here and on your blog. You are really capturing your surroundings. It is funny that once you start sketching, things that you never thought to draw before become wonderful subjects.

Re: Miatagrrl's sketches: fueled by rain & caffeine
Hi everyone! I made another quick trip to the zoo this afternoon (which is conveniently close to my house).
Here are Towan, the orangutan, and a laughing kookaburra. I have a little more about Towan on my blog.

Wonderful sketches. Do you show Towan the finished sketch? They always amaze me with their behaviour, such intelligent creatures.
