Jayde, you're actually correct in that. If it wasn't for the humans moving to the area to "commune" with the wild horses and feeding them all summer, the horses would migrate come fall like they're supposed to do. Instead the humans have made of the horses an entitlement herd. They hang around and starve all winter because who wants to feed a wild horse out in the open at 10 or 20 below zero? So, they get real skinny and in the spring the stallions break down fences and panels and go after the domestic horses... Sad situation all around and directly traced to the humanity part.
Still, I enjoy seeing them when they're in the open spaces and doing what they're supposed to do which is eat, birth, mate and migrate.
