Re: Loose Calla Lilies

Beautiful. Love the update, but see it's tightened up a bit. Because you're doing this to loosen up, my advice is to try to stick with the first version of everything.

My experience is some days I'll look at a painting and say "ooh, I like that". And the next day say "yuck". So, what to do? Stick to you gut feeling - and your first pass, especially if you're trying to loosen up. Have fun and
trust yourself the first time. When I second guess myself, I often overwork a painting. I'm definitely not saying you did that, but that you might want to exercise a "good enough" mentality during this 101 paintings exercise. :-)

Re: Loose Calla Lilies

Thanks Maureen.

Michele, you're quite right of course. It has tightened up, so I've been eyeing up my iris paintings with a view of what extra to do, so maybe I shall leave them alone and post them as they are. Thaks for giving me your (very valid) viewpoint.

If you are willing to hear from a non-painter, then I am your man. lol.

I think your 2nd version captures more 'substance'. I don't know the correct term but it has to do with contrasts and more depth within the blooms themselves. I also think your reworked bg was a good move.

Re: Loose Calla Lilies

I like them both but it's just me I tend to like the stronger contrasts of color and the second is stunning with that in mind.

I'm not much help on touching it or leaving it alone, I never leave anything alone..haha obviously for me trying to be loose is just a waste of time but I do love that you can be loose and still offer the awesome of you talent!!!
