pastel and warpaint

Trying to simplify - at least at the start of a painting.

#47, 24x18in, acrylic on board. Instead of lines, painted areas, and used pastel colors to reduce contrasts. The yellow is lighter IRL, I am camera challenged.

#48, 24x18in, acrylic on board, "War Paint"

Started as simple areas, then read the shape became a skull, added some war paint and cracks. I had just looked at a bunch of pictures by Basquiate, so probably a little subconscious influence.

C+C welcomed.

Re: pastel and warpaint

Sir, these are beautiful!!

I read the first as, sort of, a camo pattern. Of course, I love camo patterns, so I see them a lot. LOL

And the second just makes me think. I, too, see the skull. And it makes me think of war and the battle between good and evil.

Well Done.

Re: pastel and warpaint

Hello Senwiz, thanks for the compliments! Pastel camo - I wonder what the application of that would be for?

I keep trying new painting techniques as I explore abstracts and its a lot of fun. I'm thinking the 3D look to areas has some more potential.

Re: pastel and warpaint

I thought the title of the top one was war paint. That would make a lot more sense to me than the other one. I am not really seeing a skull in the second one, well it doesn't really read as one to me. I like it for its interacting symbiosis it has going on.

Re: pastel and warpaint

Hi Chuck, I like both of them a lot, the pastel colours of the first work really well and with an interesting design, whilst the second has such strong powerfull colours that really make you sit up and notice!

Re: pastel and warpaint

The second one made me smile the paint truely looks like it is trying to wrestle with the oposing color. both are good
