Thanks Ken. Photorealism seems to be evolving in many new directions nowadays. I'm always glad to share my favorite artists.

Thanks for those links, was not familiar with those artists.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks John. You might also like this generative video painting by Sergio Albac. He applies the principles of perceptual painting (I think that's the right term?) in interesting ways.

That's far out, I recognized the Queen, reminds me of an animated Chuck Close. I think it demonstrates the importance of values.

Re: Refractions (series)

Raeburn, I'm not being biased here or anything but I prefer your work to Alyssa Monks. That I just find a little too disturbing, like watching some horror movie, oooh!
You have a better balance.

Re: Refractions (series)

Hi Amrit - sorry I didn't mean to post a disturbing image (the mods can remove it if it's inappropriate). I just chose that one to illustrate the smear/wet glass effects that I was talking about. But even though it's so abstract it does seem inspired by Hitchcock films.

Re: Refractions (series)

No no, that one is ok. It's the other stuff she has on her site. Very eery.
Yes, I see the Hitchock resemblance.

I like the wet on wet smearing. This is what Bob Ross would teach to do reflections in water too.

Re: Refractions (series)

I love these and may try this technique. Always learning, exploring and gaining inspiration from other artists is why I'm here.

Re: Refractions (series)

These work well. The 'refraction' elements enhance and enliven the skin tones.
I think that your work is more impressionistic, whereas the artists you've illustrated seem more expressionistic and closer in terms of feeling to Francis Bacon who they seem to owe a lot to.

Re: Refractions (series)

abstractca, Dana Design, 123harry - thanks very much for your feedback

Recently I've been pushing abstraction a bit more, using facial structure as a compositional device but not really going for recognizable portrait. Rather, I've been aiming for a specific mood while trying to hold on to some semblance of light and form.

These studies probably belong in the Abstract forum rather than Portraiture but anyway I thought I'd post a few updates which relate to the glitch/refraction theme of this thread:

Medium - oil on canvas board
Dimensions - 9 x 11 inches
