Re: Possum Bourne Subaru
such detail in your work. Not much into cars but I really like this one. What are the pencils and paper your working on?

Re: Possum Bourne Subaru
Yes, well.. Rally cars have lots of decals therefore lots of detail! It's a bit of a pain really. My pencils are mainly polychromos but I use all sorts of other types too. Especially staetdler cheap hard ones. They are great for layering over the oily soft polychromos layer and they help 'smerge' the layers. I also have some prismacolor pencil which I rather like.. There's some unusual pastel colours in them like greyed lavender and powder blue.. Plus of course the remarkable blender! I also use a white highlighter pen for highlights and now and then a good colorfast black permanent marker under the black pencil for dark shadow.
The paper is simple B.21 cartridge paper, A3 size, made by Bockingford.

Re: Possum Bourne Subaru
Thank you so much for providing all the materials info, it is interesting to see how other artists work especially those who are as talented as yourself .
I am looking forward to seeing how this piece progresses, I think your detail -be it animate or inanimate- is fantastic and what I admire the most about your work.
I may need to pick your brains at some point in the future -if that's OK? I want to do an A3 size piece for my father of an old Bedford Bus in the scottish countryside. It is something that has been on the back burner forever (surprised its not burnt to a crisp by now, hehe), I am sure now that he thinks I have forgotten, so it will be even more of a surprise. Anyway, I haven't tackled a vehicle before and I want to get it right for him, so do you think it would be alright for me to ask for your guidance once I get started with it?
I am looking forward to seeing more .

Re: Possum Bourne Subaru
well.. having finished the formula car commission its time to move back to the Rally car..
so here's the latest progress! Im working on the door / dust area. very light work with blues and purples and pinks... plus ive started the black underlay of the side window area. For those who dont understand how I can do the dark first this may be interesting to see how it progresses.

Re: Possum Bourne Subaru
more work on the window area..
btw 'Possum' Bourne was perhaps the most famous NZ rally driver. He won the NZ Rally championship and competed in may overseas rallys with great distinction. he unfortunately died in 2003 while practising for the Cardrona 'Race to the Sky'. A great loss to New Zealand motorsport.
