Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
So great to hear you are getting out, and feeling better one assumes. Great sketches.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
Purr! Thank you both. It was an incredible day and I wound up feeling better today than I usually do a day after a serious exertion like that. Though with the number of times I lift and haul my power chair around, I may develop better upper body strength as well as extend my mobility.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
Great sketches, Robert. . . especially love the pen and ink lily pond with wash! I'll try to look up the other pan pastel one on the other thread, too. That sounds like such a fun excursion! is this a new WC friend or one you've met up with before? I'm trying to remember if in the years I lived in Marin County I ever went to Golden Gate Park and I don't think that I ever did! Bad girl I was back then to miss that opportunity.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
I saw Reba's posts here for some time and hung out with her on WC before I moved, but once I got here she messaged me and we started making plans to meet. It took a while due to various life interruptions on both sides but it's so wonderful now that we've connected. She's retired and she was just as glad to find a plein air painting buddy as I am!
Rainy, if you ever come to visit we have to go to that park. You missed out on something incredible. I could spend a lifetime exploring it and never run out of beautiful things to paint.
I'm going to see if I can get out to the SF Zoo too one of these months, go there on its Free Day by Paratransit. Using my power chair was the key to my being able to do it and have a good time instead of doing it and getting so sick I wouldn't enjoy it.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
Shh... don't tell Plant Parade! I finished the page with a watercolor life sketch of Ari. He was just too cute laying on the white sheets of my bed. Sakura Koi watercolors and on the plant, Pigma Micron lines. 7" x 10" Stillman & Birn Beta journal. I love this journal.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
Ari looks so fluffy and cuddly. When cats sleep like this, I always have that urge to bury my face in their furry bellies...and probably get my nose scratched off. But it might be just worth the price.
The bird of paradise is fabolous, especially the colours of the stem.

Re: Stillman & Birn New Journals
Purr thank you! Aww Jennifer, yes, I get that urge every time I see him sleeping! But it's very rare for me to be allowed to pet the fuzzy tummy. He takes that as the invitation to Play Rough and will kick and play-bite - not really major clawing but grabbing with claws and "gotcha" play-biting. It's very cute if I've got gloves on or a towel wrapped around my hand. I sometimes tickle his tummy with the feather wand to get him playing.
Some cats love having their fuzzy tummy petted and snuggled. Ari just isn't one of them. And his is so fluffy and soft too.
Once in a very great while, if he's feeling very sleepy and I'm very gentle about it, I'm allowed to gently pet the fuzzy tummy. This is always a privilege. I have to approach it gradually by petting his back and sliding a little farther around at each stroke, if he puts up a paw or looks at me stop and go back. But I think I may eventually desensitize him.
Once, just once recently, I laid down to go to sleep and he curled up around my head and let me lay my face against his fuzzy tummy. I didn't move but it was so sweet of him to do that. His fur is very silky soft and it's just as delightful as you imagine. I think maybe my slow desensitization is working!
Watercolor studies from Johannes Vloothuis class, copying elements of his painting or at least reinterpreting them. 7" x 10" Stillman & Birn Beta journal with Sakura Koi watercolors and round waterbrush.
