How do I use the "QUOTE" tool in the forums?
While replying to comments in a forum, I attempted to use the "QUOTE" tool. I had seen the little "QUOTE BOXES" in replys from others. However, my attempt was only partially successful. The unsuccessful aspect was that no little outlined box was generated around the resulting quote. At first, this seemed to be of no concern. What I got seemed close enough to what I intended to do. However, I have since become aware that the difference could (and indeed did) create some misunderstandings. This would probably have been avoided if the outlined box had been there. That box is much harder to overlook than just another line of text (which is what I had wound up with), lol. I realize this is probably a more or less unique situation, but if someone could tell me where I went astray, I would be most grateful. I spent a fair amount of time trying to find an answer on my own with no results.

To quote another post use the blue quote icon in the lower right of that post.
To add a quote box in your own post use the small quote box feature, but be sure to left click to highlight what you want quoted. The icon looks like a talk bubble seen in comic strips.
You may also just type in the two words [quote] [/..quote] PLEASE NOTE: I added two dots between the backslash and the letter q so you could see it otherwise it would have created the quote box. You would not want those two dots there.

"While replying to comments in a forum, I attempted to use the "QUOTE" tool. "
as it came with adding my own quotation marks,
sometimes I change the font italics or bold:

sometimes I use a different color:

still faster than trying to figure out quote gadget (for me)
these tricks make the quote stand out from the text I am adding

Re: How do I use the "QUOTE" tool in the forums?
I have spent the last 30 minutes attempting to change the quote text color and/or changing it to a bold text but I had no luck in doing so. About half that time was wasted because when I first set up my message options in my user control panel, I had chosen the 'basic editor' option. It is just a basic text format with no choices for color or style, lol.
After trying the standard editor and the enhanced editor, I still had no success. I fear I find this as confusing as using the 'quote' tool. It was a great suggestion which seemed doable by me. In this instance however, apparently not everything (for me at least) is as easy as it seems, lol. Heck, it appears I can't even change the colors of my own text even without trying to include any quotes.
Thanks for the responses anyway. Hopefully, I will eventually figure out something that I can do about it.

Success at Last - Still no luck with the 'quote tool', but I have managed to figure out how to modify colors and font styles, etc. This will do what I want. Thank you birdhs for your suggestion.

To quote a whole post..
You can use the "quote" button in the bottom right of any post to quote the whole post.
Or to quote part of a post
1~ highlight the text that you want to quote
2~ copy and paste to your posting text box
3~ ensure that the text you want to quote is still highlighted
4~ press the quote box (looks like a cartoon cloud, it's right besides the link button) at the top of your post text box.
OR
You can simply type QUOTE in brackets as Jon says.
For example, but I'm using the word frog instead of QUOTE so it shows up.
[FROG]words you want to quote[/FROG]
Quote:
It does work

To clarify on #4, the quote button is beside the link button in the "Quick Reply" box, in the "Advanced Reply" box, it's next to the image icon button.

Well I may be slow but I am persistent. As is obvious from this posting, I have finally seen the error of my ways (at least in respect to this issue), lol. My 1st failure was because I had opted for a basic text editor with no color or font options. My next failure was not realizing I had to paste between the appropriate set of brackets and not after the last of them. Just like changing colors. So simple and yet so frustrating.

Glad it all worked out in the end. It took me awhile to figure that out when I first joined too. I don't think I used the quote for a year or so.
