German Shorthaired Pointer XP in CP - FINISHED
Thought I would share a little bit of the latest commission I am working on. It is a surprise for the recipient so I haven't been able to share it on Facebook....but feeling like I need some more eyes!
I have actually vacillated between love and hate on this one. Not sure if it will be really good or really bad....have you ever felt that way?
The ref is such a super high contrast photo...maybe it was better suited to graphite or scratchboard...but I guess I will get through it! They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right??? Sean

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer XP in CP
I think you're doing fine Sean ... the only thing I see is the crease in his ear in the drawing ... it's more a wrinkle/shadow in the ref. Mostly though, I think you are capturing the spirit.

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer XP in CP
Sean, I constantly fight with my drawings. This is looking really good. I'd just check his eyes again. The one on our right is more closed, more almond shaped. On the other one the eyeball is popping out a bit. It doesn't go right to the edge as you have it. The surrounding eyelids cover it a bit more. Just check the angle of the top eyelid in the far corner.

Re: German Shorthaired Pointer XP in CP
Thanks Ken and Michael for having a look at this. Ken, as far as the ear goes, there are alot more layers of CP that will make it look less like a crease and more like a shadow. This is really only an underlayment on the ear at this point. Thanks Michael, I'll take another look at the eyes! BTW I should add this is 11 x 14 Stonhenge Warm White paper with Prismacolors.

Hey Sean ~
No critiquing but watching. Eagle eyes have mentioned what you are/will work on, so .... yeah....
Great work. I know the feeling of needing more eyes, I have that issue that I will post, yet.... I think.
Bless you. IRma

Thanks Irma!
I think we are heading out of "Ugliville," at least for now.....I am not usually bothered by the ugly stage, but this one really tried me.
Here is a bit of an update from yesterday....

BTW, Sean, in my view, *eye* would say, *eye* have nothing to critique in YOUR work. You do such beautiful work.
*EYE* just hope that *eye* can learn.....
Blessings to you as you move ON!! Irma
P.S. *eye* don't see UGLY here, but if you want to see UGLY, I CAN show you ugly [speaking of MY work]!! ha ha ha ha

Thanks Luicre and amri...I do enjoy colored pencil, but after doing one, I am happy to return to graphite!

Thanks Katherin and Moonolithic! Katherin, this dog is actually in his early teens...photo was taken when he was much younger!
