Re: in his arms
Right on the mark.
Here is the good of it: this work has artistic power and will inevitably end up more venerated than most paintings being made today. The bad of it: there is no gimmick. Youll just have to endure a long timeframe to bring about a slow build to eventual recognition.
Not sure of the dimensions but Im guessing from the brushstrokes its between 9x12 and 16x20. Matters not.
Let the striated lines guide the overall design and color balance. The distinction between the side profile of the father figure and the front profile of the 3 other faces, including the stuffed animal and animal on the magazine cover, takes on a monumental quality when viewed against the painterly but more or less simplified background. He is too distracted to notice the viewer.
This is a good semi-abstract forceful style. Definitely make many more in it if you feel the impulse.

Re: in his arms
Well, this comes as a relief, Chaunch. When you started posting a couple of years back, I was quite a fan. Your work had admirable looseness and originality. I could find some crits to toss in but they were tossed at superior work as I saw it. Then you went away for a good spell. When you came back, I generally was not impressed with your posts and couldn't see where you'ld progressed. I rather thought that you'ld drifted into a less successful style. This bothered me. I like to see artists improve; especially my cyber friends on this forum. It gives me hope that I can get better too. It's also possible that my judgment was flawed, that you are improving, but I couldn't grasp it. So I looked but didn't comment on your last 4 or 5 posts. Then we get this one. It's the bomb. Great concept; great feeling; the faces are drafted simply but they have power as they emerge from the thick strokes. It's Roualt like. Terrific color balance anchored by red/green. Keep a goin'!

There is always the problem of over muddying your colours however.
Competition is fierce
