WIP - Communion portfolio oil on canvas- Peter D

I´m gearing up for a major art Fair here in Spain in Marbella. For some time I have been meaning to do a first communion portfolio piece as the Spanish spend a fortune on communions. It is 73 x 60cm.

The first stage is just a quick placing of the figure on the canvas using ultramarine as the background will be a blue. I don´t worry very much about likeness at this stage and drawing errors are fun to track down as I go along.

The next stage is just blocking in face and arms trying to get a feeling for tones and temperature.

Here is the next stage. I have finished blocking in the background and have started blocking in her dress. I have also started doing more to the face although there are still drawing issues to be resolved. Will have to look for a posie of flowers for her to hold - not being Catholic or even Christian I will need to investigate what flowers are traditional in Communions rather than symbolising death or something equally inappropriate.

Thanks Jon.

It has been a busy week with my day job and I have also had to put finishing touches to a commission which is being delivered this afternoon and prepare a canvas for a new commission. I have managed to do some more work on her dress and have chosen white lilies for her to hold as well as adding a crucifix.
