Re: The Drawing Room Apr 29 ~ May 6
I was watching Nova on PBS a couple weeks ago. They were doing an update on Chernobyl based on the wildlife in the area since there are no humans living there. They were using wolves as the benchmark and found that wildlife in the area was the equal in numbers of anywhere within that latitude in Russia. The retention pond around the reactor is, of course, highly contaminated, but they were showing some catfish living there which they said were not affected by the radiation as far as their size was concerned .. they were around 8' long and they said that was because they could live up to 100 years and without predators in the area for some time, they got pretty large and now nothing is interested in them.
I've no idea about that photo though ... just brought that show I watched to mind.
[edit] here's the link to the full episode ... http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episo...-episode/7190/

Yep, I saw that one a while back and noticed that they just ran it again. Very interesting stuff. In fact it's recorded on my dvr at the moment. Was planning on watching it again.

Well, you know, in those days he could possibly have been both.
