Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Nothing is in the approval queue. I'd see it if there was something in it.
This is a never-ending, unresolved, intermittent problem in the RIL
Unfortunately, it's out of our control, but it has been reported numerous times.
All we can do is tell you to try again later, or tomorrow, or the next day.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Judy,
Thank you for explaining about that problem. Since I had never uploaded to RIL before, I had no idea what to expect. I was afraid to resubmit the images for fear of cluttering the library with duplicates. Now I understand that I need to retry.
Finally success! (or so it seems) A little while ago I tried to upload a 3rd image - thinking there might be less network traffic in the early AM. This one appeared to succeed. I didn't get an error message. I got a screen showing the information I submitted and where it will be placed in the library. The box where the image should be says "Image pending approval". Looks much more promising this time.
Thanks again for explaining things. I will retry the other photos.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
dreamsOfSpring,
Yep, you're pics are in the RIL now. I just approved them
One note though, please do not use the main category(ies) "flower" or "flowers" as keywords.
When you do that, it will bring up the entire category/folder in a keyword search. It's an oddity of the search function. Kind of defeats the purpose of a more specific search.
So, say on your Iris photo as an example, do this as keywords:
Iris irises coral pale-pink
(the hyphen there in "pale pink" keeps the word as one search. Makes it easier for the search engine to find, another quirk of the search function)
I've changed your keywords to hone down the search.
Using names of colors is also a good thing to do.
Judy

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Thank you! Thanks for the tips and for fixing the ones I submitted. I will be careful not to use the category names as keywords henceforth.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Only have to try to not use the Main Category name as a keyword.
It's OK to use the sub-category names as keywords: i.e. - Tulip, Sunflower, Rose, etc.
Confusing, I know .... lol

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
I'll be adding other assorted images as time allows. Please feel comfortable sharing any other tips and/or ideas for improvement. I'm eager to learn. :-)
(I'll figure out the newer/better emoticons later.)

To get the emoticons (smilies) hit the Reply tab instead of the Quick Reply box.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Guess RIL is being ornery - tried uploading my first photo and got this message:
/var/www/wetcanvas.com/RefLib/uploads/913852: Error creating directory (check permissions).

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
Judy -- One day recently when I was uploading photos, I realized the full meaning of your words "Only have to try to not use the Main Category name as a keyword..." I was sure I understood the rules until I was in the middle of uploading and suddenly couldn't recall if I had done it again and then even became confused about which level was 'main'. Yep, it is a little more difficult than I initially thought, both to remember and to get it right - but I'm trying.
Doug -- Thanks for the info on Emoticons. One site I use requires you to remember hot keys. My brain is too full already. I like this method much better. Thanks again.
All -- A few days ago I also ran into a day when I could not upload despite multiple retries. I've now learned when this happens to just try again another day. The following morning everything uploaded easily.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
I don't even bother with trying RIL. If you want one of my photos for reference, hang out at the Oily Rag thread. At least the photo uploader usually works if you prod it enough.
Too bad, RIL is a valuable resource to members that has sabotaged itself. Hope it gets straightened out whenever the site gets its upgrade.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
I rarely have any trouble uploading to the RIL. I only upload one photo at a time.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
If the regular uploader can handle my image files, the the RIL uploader should too, but in my case, it can't. The problem must be deeper than just the UI.

Re: RIL Technical Issues/Problems Thread
The RIL is still an excellent resource because most images are high resolution and when enlarged provide a lot of possible crops from a single image.
I'm sorry we still often have problems uploading to the RIL - it may have something to do with the fact that it can take files up to 3.5mb - hence, many of us try single uploads instead of multiples.
I know it should accepts multiples, but sometimes it will not!
We really do just have to try again later - sometimes switching off and coming back, sometimes a different day.
We're told it will be resolved - we just don't know when.
The software we use for the RIL is different from that used for the regular uploader to WC. (which accepts 200kb max.)
