After a gap, I am back with a portrait of my friend. This time, I will post the WIPs. The sketch is yet to be completed.. So, comments are welcome...

Nice your still drawing , Im guessing this is charcoal , not sure as you dont mention what it is your using ... really push those values, have you tried working from Life , it really helps us to learn to see with much more scope ..

You are right lovin art!!

The reference is from a picture.
The sketch is of charcoal and the size is 24 in x 28 in.
Thanks for giving the thought of starting with life..

One thing is, I really am slow in sketching. So I am unsure how far I can go in one Life session... My friend gave her photo so that I can practise still drawing.
If these comes out well, then I end up framing it and displaying in the walls of my home!!

I am planning to start life drawing with my own fingers and toes so that time is really not a constraint (An idea I got from WC friends!!).

Good WIP, Vinayak. A good pose and you are doing well with developing the personality of the model. With charcoal be aware of the darks. Too much contrast can sometimes flatten the forms and make the surfaces look flat. Just something to keep in the back of the mind.

Sure... I agree to your comment... The same problem I faced in my first sketch...Thanks for reminding... I will not forget that...

The picture is one from my friend's album... I am happy that I am able to bring out the maximum from the photo...

Good finish, Vinayak! You sure are not afraid of the darks Am sure your friend is thrilled to see this.

Life of not -you've done a good job. I would only just think the lips would be softer .-lighter on a young girl.

Vinayak, your figure is great. My eyes, however, keep popping back and forth from her face to the background. You may want to make the lines in the background less crisp so that the focus is clearly on the beautifully drawn face. Just an idea.

Thanks kate... In the original picture, it was a multiple colored wall.. But ya it will appear different, attracting our attention. Will change tat...
