Spring 2 WIP
I'm not sure about this one, it seems scattered. I worked until I got irritated with it and quit. But today I feel a little better about it.
18x24, pastel
Reference, Underpainting and Finished -about 2 1/2 hours.

Re: Spring 2 WIP
Hi,
I was just browsing the "new posts" and I'm very curious Is the underpainting in watercolor ? Did you use soft pastels or oil pastels ?
I like it very much.

Hi Gliberte,
Thanks.
I used Createx Pure Pigment, it's a pigment disperion with no paint body. It handles a lot like watercolor only it's liquid and much stronger.

Re: Spring 2 WIP
This is gorgeous! I have wondered about the createx paint as well, read a couple of people use it in Pastel Journal. Is it a faster drying gouche type paint?

Re: Spring 2 WIP
Hi Ben,
It's not any kind of paint. It's a very finely ground preparation of pigment known in the industry as a 'pigment dispersion'. It's the same kind of preparation as the colorant that is squeezed into the paint at the hardware store, except this is artist grade pigment.
So, it has no paint body, it has the same drying time as water and dust mixed together. It is VERY strong, brilliant color, sold in a liquid form for all pigment uses, such as coloring plastic, making water based paints, coloring concrete... etc.

Thanks, Jon.
I like it one minute, then don't. Right now I like it.

Re: Spring 2 WIP
This has a nice delicate feel, it might be worth adding the bright bank running away into the distance round the corner and maybe a splash of light on the water as your reference has, it should supply both some mystery and a focus to the composition.

Re: Spring 2 WIP
Yes this is gorgeous, and intriguing. I like Rob's suggestion for the stronger splashes of light.
