Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
I Think I have finally finished this painting after toning down the greenery and adding detail to the water and wet sand in the foreground. My gallery suggested I name it "Radiant Beacons" but they also suggested I show light coming from the lighthouse beacon. I'm not sure that will play correctly as those beams would detract from the sun's rays. Any advice or suggestions here would be appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
Ron

Fantastic light and background wave, I can hear the wave roaring in...

Re: Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
I agree Ron, couldn't visualize the lighthouse adding a light beam constuctively. For me it's not really about the lighthouse anyways, the light coming from the sky is already superb and the hills have a great balance in color. Good time to sign it and smile!

Re: Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
Ron - I also see it from a vantage point that 'mother nature,' with her rays of sun, provides a brighter 'beacon' than a man-made structure, hence for this reason the lighthouse doesn't have any rays showing in the painting....at least that could be an underlying message in the work....

Great painting Ron. I also agree. I just can't see light coming from the lighthouse. It would distract from that magnificent sky.

Re: Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
Another nice painting Ron. I tend to agree with everyone concerning the light house but for a different but obvious reason....it's not night. The sun is still high on the horizon. What I would like to offer if I may, would be to add some highlights to lighthouse. You may also want to consider softening the hard edges of the dark cloud that is blocking the sun.
Other then that get it framed and get hanging in your gallery...you got a winner.

Nice and powerful painting Ron we were in Kawai just after a big hurricane 15 years ago or so I still remember the horizon wasn't flat I guess hidden by the closer waves

Frank - Good point about the light house and I do agree with your suggestion about softening the cloud edges around the sunlight. I also think I will add a brighter highlight to the lighthouse. Thanks for your help!
Randall - Thanks! I appreciate your comments.
Udo - Thanks so much.
Robert - Thank you. Yes, it looked very similar, especially just after the hurricane.

Re: Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
Great Picture ,
Here's a suggestion for you though regarding the light house beam, cut a small triangular sliver of "beam shaped paper tinted to the yellow (incandescent bulb temp) and play with positioning it at various angles to the light from the sky . That way you will know whether there's anything to gained. It may well prove the point that the light from our SUN is far brighter than man made light and so enhance the effect.

Re: Kalihiwai Storm Surge - Finished
Thanks for the suggestion, Wilt, but the painting is already on its way to the gallery. I decided to leave out any light from the lighthouse. As Frank noted, its daytime and no need for the light being lit.
