When to monitize the blog?

I just want to get that general number of hits per month I need in order to use ad sense or one of the blog advertising services.

You can add the adverts at any stage, you will need to have numbers of click-throughs though before you actually start making money.

Lets start by saying that some themes make more money than others, but of course that the author plays an important role.
A good figure to start making a decent income would be 100000 visits per month.
However if you get something over 5000, you can already make a few bucks; something like $10 per month. But you need to be proactive and remember that content is king.

Why embarrass myself? It is way less than 5000 per month, even way less than 1000 per month.

I'm really not all that disturbed by all this. I just won't put ads on it, since it will not make me any money. Why clutter up my page?

I think it depends what you want to do. Does it have to be adwords? Have you considered things like affiliate buttons for services you already use? I have a page of affiliate links on my blog. They don't get hit often but every once in a while. Since I'm "paid" then with things I'd already buy (ie. credit for art supply store, free month of web hosting, etc) it doesn't hurt to be there even if I don't have tons of traffic each month. Since it's on a separate page it isn't clutter right now. (I am intending to put it back on the main page, but I'm going to design my own buttons so everything is a consistent look)

I changed the title of the blog, and am now getting a few more hits-- still much lower than 5000 per month. I will just continue making posts, and trying to get my art work done. I started very slowly, then, when I am doing some specific work, I usually do a few posts.

I think the affiliate buttons are a good idea.
