Re: Basset Hound
I think you've done a good job on the fur, especially in how you have captured the contours of the face and ears.

Re: Basset Hound
I think you did a great job too, especially the eyes and you've followed the contours of the head really nicely. The mouth strikes me as a little odd, that grey and white area to the left of the tongue. I like the tongue, just needs another darker colour in there to give it a bit more depth

Re: Basset Hound
Opera, look closely at his nose in your reference, I have a feeling it's a little off angle.
As far as the rest of it...good START!!!! I would highly, highly recommend working more on this, I think you'll see that you can bring him more to life. Look closely at the details of his inside mouth, not white and black, but more blackish red and dark pinkish, usually.
But I am nitpicking only because I think you have a lot of potential to make this piece even better! Because it's already lovely!

Re: Basset Hound
Thanks Lexycat and thanks Robin for your advice - I have a tendency to sort of give up at a certain point rather than persevere. I shall revisit that mouth!!

Re: Basset Hound
Personally I much prefer to see a large image so I can see more detail and enjoy the artwork even more, so definitely no need to apologise .
I think you have captured the Basset Hounds wonderful doe-eyed expression beautifully. I agree with all the other advice you have received and can only add -keep at it, as Robin suggested this portrait has sooo.. much going for it that it would be a shame not to finish him/her.
Whatever you decide I would love to see any updated image you have if you work on it some more, pretty please

Re: Basset Hound
I love Bassets and I love yours. You have done so well and with a few tweaks in tongue area, it will be just fine.
