Alla Prima with Knife
8" x 10" Oil on hardboard. I've been in a painting funk lately, but started attending a weekly class to get myself back into things. Here is one of the works I produced one evening.

The class is working. I envy you the opportunity to readjust your mind-set. Nice stuff.

Re: Alla Prima with Knife
Hi Laura,
This is a great looking piece of work. The lighting is very good and I feel as if I'm standing right above those trees enjoying this scene. Very nice work.

Re: Alla Prima with Knife
Hi Jim, Thank you for your nice comments. Being surrounded by other artists is helping me climb back out of my hole.
Thank you Ron - my confidence is coming back. I am working on a large panorama right now of Mt Kathadin - hope to post it here soon.

nice piece .. funny how we can drift in and out of things but most times we drift out because we actually need time to adjust our thoughts

Re: Alla Prima with Knife
Hi Wayne
Yeah, I guess I needed to step back a little and do some thinking. I was in a painting funk where I had lost all my confidence. Certain people's comments can easily derail me and I need to stop giving them that power.

.. very hard to do as we are taught from childhood to appreciate the compliments as success and anything else is failure .. one of the few things I actually remember from school Hopefully things have changed over time.

There is great strength and a feeling of primal power in this painting - I like it!

Thanks Wayne! I am practicing painting mountains for when I go out to Colorado in June to take a workshop with Keith Bond. Can't wait!

Re: Alla Prima with Knife
Like the movement/flow of the dark blue - leads eye into the scene and then the trees appear to complete the scene. Arnie
