schools out

It probably sounds crazy, but I wanted to combine the feeling of being deep under water and the psychology of being outside the pack. This is the result, a 18 x 36" acrylic on stretched canvas.

Re: schools out

I am not sure the white line is helpful and I am perplexed as to the focal point. Is the fish on the left of the line the one left out of the school grouping or is the orange one the special fish choosing to move outside of the group?

Re: schools out

I really enjoy this. Great idea firebrush.

I am not always a fan of such a division in compositions as you have here but it's growing on me. I feel like I am in an aquarium or a submersible looking in on the underwater scene. Love the blue and the vertical striations enhance the feeling of depth.

Re: schools out

Thank you all for the comments. The silver wedge with the orange stripe divides. The orange fish is a cartoon, and its looking at you, the viewer. The small fish on the left is a straggler. If it helps, the left section is closer to cobalt teal than the ultramarine blue on the right. Under the right light, the "stripe" blazes out like a sword. Or it could be a lifeline to the surface.

Re: schools out

I think the blue on the left could stand for some darkening to balance out the brightness of the white. I think it is not separated enough or that the blue on the left is being overpowered with the white. It does separate it but it doesn't hold your eye there.
