WDE Apr 27 THE QUAY wip
Because Lin is a friend, I squeezed one in this weekend.
I cropped the photo and made the format horizontal rather that vertical. When I find time I will tweak it a bit more and try to work some detail into the painting. It's an 8 by 10 inch oil pastel, so delicate detail is a bit difficult for me. I may try for some engines on the back of the boats, chimneys on buildings and a few more tweaks.
THE QUAY
Oil pastel on gessoed, hardboard panel, Senneliers, 8 by 10 inches and between three and four hours of working time.
Suggestions for imporvement welcome.

thanks for joining in Hal!!
This is gorgeous and I do know how hard it is for small detail with OP.
i'll look out for the updates and tweaks before I add it to the gallery....
I do like the landscape version.

Re: WDE Apr 27 THE QUAY wip
Nice job on this scene. I use to use colored pencils for detail with oil pastels and they worked well for lines, twigs, etc. There's always crayola which can be sharpened and the inexpensive oil pastels which can be whittled to a point. This is a lovely painting, just a few darks under the boats and some darks around or in the windows would work well, I think.
I love this horizontal. Looks more friendly and welcoming.

Paula, Ros, Jean, thank you.
Lin if you are planning some summary or gallery, it might be several days before I can to get at this one again so proceed without me.
