Re: Long Slide Falls...top looking down
Ah, Wisconsin! My home state. And that's exactly as I remember it, only better. The birches in the back, the maple to the right and the huge, majestic pine's way in the back; I so do miss those views. I use to fish rivers like this for trout and when caught, I'd move to the shore and cook them up in butter for breakfast. Oh so yummy even though standing in that water made my feet go numb. Porcupines would wander slowly down to the waters edge and eagles would fly up the river.
I love your painting!

Re: Long Slide Falls...top looking down
Thanks....it is enchanting...tried talking my wife into coming...well, always do...but climbing and the chill given off the falls affects her fibromyalgia. The balm of the spirit spending time in such places is hard to do justice with words, thus, a painting...and even many of those. In a way, I'm glad I obsessed with fishing...trout fishing when I was younger, and my father a sportsfishing guide. With it somewhat out of my system...makes grabbing the paintbox easier. Still...I need to go back to some of my haunts just for that purpose. To fish...

My posts seem to be disappearing. I'll try this again--
this painting is very appealing--it's cool, on a hot day, and it's to be close to 100 here today.

Hi, Larry ~ You always get our attention and this one - for one reason - seems to bring some unusual color mixes from your palette. At any rate, a striking mix of warms and cools. That far background through the trees is just right. Dan and Judith

Larry,
WOW! What a powerful piece you've done here...I think you are really pushing the extremes with about everything in this one...colors...edges...atmosphere...the foreground area ia so bold and the colors so pure with lots of hard edges...a real attention grabber...the background soft - distant - with a lot left to imagine/fill in the blanks for the viewer...your representation of the light hitting the foreground foliage is very convincing...The depth in the whole piece is enviavble...an A+ to the teacher on this one. Did I mention I think the colors in the foreground are wonderfully pure and...

Beautiful Larry! Love the greyed lavenders...just the perfect color! That's not an easy place to paint either!!!! We have been there, or I should just say that I tried to go. Slippery rocks and sharp edges!! Are you going to do a workshop in Marquette or at your home this summer? The best to you and your wife from Bob and me!
