Re: Stuff I See (around here)

great bird sketches, esp the great Blue Heron. They are terrible pests if they find a pond with goldfish and koi. They can empty it fast. Only bird I ever wanted to shoot.

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Doug, welcome to WetCanvas and the Art Journals forum. I love your bird and armadillo sketches. Gorgeous accuracy and sensitive color with some interesting techniques. I liked the rough broken color around the pelican where you used the resisting paper to advantage for the water effects. Very cool.

You've obviously got plenty of years of practice drawing and observing nature. Birds and wildlife are some of my favorite subjects, especially herons and gulls, so I loved every one of your sketches. Keep going!

I hope to see more. When this one's full you might want to get a good one like the Moleskine watercolor journals, Hand Book or Stillman & Birn. Wild to see someone that skilled getting that good results on a cheap journal!

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all who stopped by and to those that commented, poochemio, Robert,Dr.D,ncgirrrrl, Rainy,Joan, vhere,eyepaint....all comments and criticisms welcomed.

@Robert--your observations are partly right...I have spent my life observing and being in nature. From Scuba & snorkel, boating, kayaking, hiking, camping, fishing, surfing, bicycling. I guess I've spent my life outdoors. Hey, it's what people do when they live in FL. (Well, at least what some of us do!).
But I'm very new at the drawing/sketching/painting thing, but I'm learning a lot from you all.

Here's another one for y'all!

These guys are locals fo' sho'. Theres usually one hangin' around the front porch at night where the light usually attracks some tasty morsels.

Re: Stuff I See (around here)

Hey Guys,

This one is a Gopher Turtle emerging from it's burrow. They are now protected and must be re-located in the case of development.

Back in the day, the old-timers used to catch and eat them...They would set a trap in front of the burrow by digging a pit. They would place a bucket with newspaper stretched across the top into the pit. Cover everything up and sprinkle sand over the newspaper. Come back later to check the trap.

As kids, we used to sabotage all traps when we found them....<G>.
(fill the buckets with sand!)
