Re: Jake Mo -- Thoroughbred Colt (new)

Love it, great job!
If you don't mind me suggesting, I would make the highlight much stronger (brighter) on the eye.
Can't believe you are new to pastels!

Yeah i think ill keep the silks the way they are because they are part of the picture, part of the horse, the silks represents the horse since it represents the barn he belongs to. The owner really likes the silks bright too, he's proud of his hunters orange silks haha!
I really appreciate all of your guys' critiques.. I fixed a couple things and think ill be done today.

Love the horse! It's so well done. Congratulations.
I just cannot take my eye away from the rider cut off at the top like that! While the horses neck fading out at the bottom bothers me not one iota I cannot come to terms with a rider who has been cut in half just below the shoulder! It just looks unnatural to me and draws my eye all the time away from the beautiful horse. I would suggest using the colours in the shirt to fade it out at the top instead.

I think you have done a good job on your painting.
But I can't for the life of me understand why any owner wants a painting of their house with his mouth pulled open and nose contorted like that
I notice that you have changed the expression in the eye and made it much softer, was that deliberate?
Im not sure whether it works or not as it no longer matches the tortured expression of his mouth and nose

Re: Jake Mo -- Thoroughbred Colt (new)

Theres more to the picture than what i put in it. keeping it the way it is makes it real.. it was in the post parade when they were leaving for the breeders cup and the leadrope is attached to the bit itself so it will pull no matter what, and with a stallion especially a thoroughbred they are a little antsy. I don't like to alter pictures from what they were.. makes them look too "fixed" idk.. im just weird! haha thank you to EVERYONE for all the help! i will be starting a new pastel soon
