Jenna...I checked out your blog and saw the kitties. I too am a cat lover. Nothing more fun to watch than kittens! Cindy. Oh and the pen & ink longhorn is spectacular!

I can see them now, thanks! I went ahead and sketched a cow and calf today using black Tombow brush pen on 9x12 Strathmore Bristol 400 series plate surface paper. After drawing in dark shapes with the brush tip, I used a rigger brush and water for midtones. Total time not even 30 minutes

It is cropped here to about 5x7.

Here is my photo taken at my mother's farm in west Texas, circa late 90s. I like the strong shadows in this photo but have never painted it.

Wonderful sketching, Kay! It is so fluid and soft, yet with bold lines. It's a great balance, and you really got the gestures of the cow and her calf just right. Well done!

Cows make for interesting shapes in artwork. Great sketch, Kay. Well done for under 30 minutes! Way to start things off.

Thanks Jenna and Ron! I did get the calf's body too elongated. Oh well, I'll do a painting from this and draw porportionally.
