Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

good Morning Howard and all others yet to wake!
Finaly got back home late friday night and
been busy around the house this weekend, and painting a little on my commission.
Have alot of catching up to do, internet was not good by my daughters and had trouble getting online.
Hope all are well, I had a great time with the grandkids!!
Can't wait to see them again on Mothers day weekend, which unfortunately will be the last time for many months.
I have to save my pennies for a trip to Alaska.
At least they will be out of the worst Allergy area of the country,
they all have problems wit allergies and the little ones even always sick due to it, so will be worth the change for them.

Later all, off to work!!

Happy May Day, everybody. It seems to me that we should have some spring flowers to celebrate.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

Kathie, glad you had a good time with the family. Just sell lots and lots of your bovine pictures and you will have not trouble saving enough for a trip to Alaska!!! Have a great Mom's Day.

Dear Elaine, Can't believe you are still having lousy weather. Time for the sun to shine on you sweetie. Yuck. Cleaning, mine starts tomorrow, piles of washing (well, I suppose a pile for 2 people) and all the rest of the the hateful jobos that are categorised as house-cleaning. There are some intrepid German ladies that think household chores are FUN!!!! Don't overdo it my friend, rather give in to the inner Schwein as they say here and enjoy just lying there and reading a book.

Rick, you are a star. What a lovely way to share the 1st of May with a mass of tulips. I love it. We are surrounded by flowering bulbs here in Southern Germany and it is an absolute delight. Thank you for sharing this lovely picture. I wish you and your family a wonderful Spring.
'
We went to watch the Maypole dance today where about twenty people twist and turn and wind blue and white ribbons around the Maypole in an intricate dance which defies describing. They are all dressed in colourful traditional costumes called 'Tracht' . Then off to the local Greek restaurant for Calamari in celebration of our Wedding Anniversary. Great food, good wine. Enjoyed the 1st of May very much.

How are you doing Patti on your trip? Can't wait to see your photos.

Very quiet here in the Cafe so looking forward to the day when you are all back and chatting.

Warm hugs for everyone.

Chammi, Happy Aniversary. Best to you both.

Just watched a lovely video of the Maypole celebration. You are so right, it is a very complex routine.

Hello All!

Hope you had a very nice Anniversary Chammi! Sounds like it's beautiful in your area of the world.

It's hot here in Florida. The air conditioning has been out here at work for 9 days. We've all been sweating and complaining. Today it's fixed and now it's freezing in the office, but hot outside. Can't win.

Let's get this cafe rocking again! Where's everyone at?

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

Got a surprise check in the mail and it was larger than expected. So, got it in the bank and went to Michaels with my 40% coupon in hand. Didn't get much but did get a wood table top easel, some storage bottles and some wood varnish. Was about 52.00 and 36.00 after the discounts. Like those deals.

Cut a new base panel for the table easel. Trimmed the big one for the floor easel and then sanded and am now varnishing them, both sides. Spraying it on so it is smooth and without brush stroke. Sealing the edges very well. One side is drying now, will flip over and varnish the other side.

Just finished spraying the back side and respraying the edges. I think it is going to work.

Hi Gang-o-peeps

Belatedly, Happy May Day - and nice to have all those tulips rick - thank you!

Chammi - also belatedly, Happy Anniversary - hope you didn't do too much housework on your special day

Tried answering PMs and stuff last night (UK time) but the site was playing up again and my cursor was doing a free-dance irrespective of mouse's instructions It was OK on other sites, just WC being oh-so-very-slow. Apparently others noticed it to so not just me.

Howard - hope you didn't spend all that windfall What are you doing with the base panels? Do you need more than one - I thought they were for supporting other 'supports' rather than for painting on - am I wrong? Probably got hold of the wrong end of the stick!

Could do with a touch of that heat Spencer - freezing again here (frost overnight), bitter wind so not getting my plants out into the garden yet.

Been busy again all day but have finished sewing, pressing and hanging all four pairs of curtains so maybe now I can get back to painting

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

The base panel for the big easel won't fit the little easel so I cut a second one to have it available for the small easel. That way I can put the big easel away now and again and open up the space.

a bit later.....

I just thought I might be able to put a piece of wood on the back of the big panel and glue and screw it and then use the small easel. have to think abut that one a bit. Hmmmmm!

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

Warm warm hugs for all the Anniversary wishes. I just wish I could meet you all in person. Wouldn't it be wonderful just to have a get-together of our Cafe folk! To chat in real life would be so great.

Howard, where on earth did you find a video of the Maypole dance (Ribbon dance) as it is called in Deutschland? How about a trip to Germany to see the real thing??? Wow, super to receive a surprise cheque in the mail. Wish I could open an envelope and find one of those!! Fascinating how very creative you are even with woodworking skills. Time to visit me and give me some advice on the studio I will be organising next year in Bavaria when I move here from Hamburg.

Spencer, I just can't imagine needing aircon. It has been lovely here but nowhere near needing cooling. I would love to visit Florida. Have been to Michigan, New York, New Jersey and worked on a place called Hurrican Island off the coast of Maine but this was a long time ago and long to see more of the States. Sigh, oh! well maybe one day. I would particularly like to visit Oregan. Believe it is very lovely.

Maureen, perhaps we can visit Florida together one day and also do a round trip to meet some of our WC friends. What say you?

Where are you all?? Miss you.

Time to hit the hay. 23h30 and I am sleepy.

Warm hugs.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012

Hi all. Thought I'd pop in and I've been busy preparing for an art retreat-- Ten artists in a rural camp area and all we're going to do is paint, walk, talk and have fun! I don't leave until Monday but I'm already in preparation mode. I keep thinking of things I want to take and not forget. Packing clothes is a breeze but trying to make sure I have all my art stuff is the challenge. That and what food to bring.

One of our group promises to demonstrate a collage technique she recently learned and another is proficient at abstract and will share that. We meet wice a year, May and October. I went for the first time in October and am really looking forward to our return.

Chammi and Spenser, I finally broke down and turned on the ac yesterday. I live in a high-rise apartment building on the 7th floor and heat certainly rises. It's in the 80's here and very humid, but I hated to give in. About the time I leave, the temps will go down and I can leave the ac off while I'm gone. It does feel strange having the windows closed so early in the season!
